Isn't saffron worth its weight in gold? or is that some other exotic spice I'm thinking of?

Just soft boil the egg, cool it down, wrap it in the pork mince and put the beans on top, then put your pie lid on. Bake slowly so the pork cooks, and the egg heats up but doesn't overcook Bruce. Quite easy really.

By weight more expensive than gold.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Isn't saffron worth its weight in gold? or is that some other exotic spice I'm thinking of?
Its the stamens from (I think) the crocus, so you can imagine its very labour intensive to harvest.

A good chunk of grated fresh ginger, garlic, black pepper, lemon juice. If I'm in the mood I might add some chilli as well.
Blend until smooth.
Make it creamy with a good splash of milk and large dollop of creme fraiche at the end.
Basic. but works.
oof that does sound good. In the end I chopped up some garlic and onion, fried it, put in a bunch of kale (that shit shrinks, maaan), mushrooms, then just over a litre of vegetable bouillion-infested water, two chopped carrots, six cubed spuds, parsley, some mixed herb stuff and a chunk of butter. Simmered for half hour and done.
Tastes nice, but now i'm going to be eating nothing but soup for three days. Not complaining, like.

For those interested (Bruce), it has a very nice short crust pastry. When cutting into it, it looked pretty much as it does on the photo's, which is something of a first. Baked beans weren't dry in the slightest, would have liked a little more sausage meat to the sausage/black pudding mixture, however, still tasty with a nice hint of spice in the background. The one thing letting it down for me is 'reformed' bacon.
I wouldn't rush back for another, but i'd certainly have no problem eating it, if someone was to shove one on a plate in front of me.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Having a veggie chilli that's been lurking in the fridge for about five days. Bought a bottle (two actually) of the award-winning Toro Loco red from Utiel Requena via Aldi. £3.79 a bottle.
Stocked up while there. Six Macon-Villages, two Cava as well as the two reds. Ten bottles - under £50. Should be ok until Saturday then.

I just had home-made (by me) rice pudding. Probably the first time in 20 years. Skin n'all.
Marvellous.
Marvellous.
