I was there then I remember our mob at the back pulling down the tin sheets at the back singing to the tune of London Bridge, Port Vales falling down, falling down……..bobo the clown wrote:One of my first away games .... a decade or so earlier (and I KNOW Zulu was at this too).Lord Kangana wrote:Good lord, what is it with Port Vale?
Vale Park back then was huge. A massive bowl of a place. There were renovating/demolishing some part of it and there was an almost limitless supply of bricks and stones. For some reason the Stokies seemed to think WE wanted these bricks, so they threw them to us.
Anyway, the whites were climbing the league's and I think went on to promotion from Div. 3 that year, but this game was tighter than we expected. A late attack led to a throw-in and some scrote ball-boy held the ball out for Byrom and, as he approached, threw it the opposite direction and then laughed at the frustrated Johnny B. ... who then prompted floored him with a punch.
They were the days.

You seem to have rather selectively quoted me there.Wandering Willy wrote:Worthy4England wrote:
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell us about looking forwards to "a season in the First Division"...All the new Clubs to go and see etc.etc. or was that just the cover for our previous relegation?![]()
It's not the first time you've come out with this - not sure what or who you are getting at.
The buck stops firmly with Freeman, not the fans or posters on here.
Or Coyle.

I did say further on, that I was getting the same feeling about this season as our previous relegation season, when I my opinion we acted too late in the day.
I've also previously said on many occasions that the buck always stops with the Manager. This Manager is no different. Indeed I responded to a post of your good self only last week (or the week before) saying exaggerly that.
As for the folks saying "It'll make a nice change, new grounds, new teams" etc. under Coyle - I'm sure if you did a search you'd be able to find out which folk they were. Sure there was a good few of them. Could never work out whether they were justifying backing the wrong horse or genuinely wanted a change to a lower Division for some bizarre reason. Either way, for me, it's not making a nice change and I won't be forgiving the clueless c*nt anytime soon.Worthy4England wrote:Could you precede that with "some of the same people". For me, buck stops with the Manager.Wandering Willy wrote:Interestingly, the same people who are now saying the players are to blame, are the same people who argued the opposite when Coyle was in charge.
In a one off game you could point to something like Bogdan's howler last week, over time, then it has to be at the Manager's door.
So interestingly, you're not entirely correct.

Re: Freedman out!
I was just saying to the cleaner that it doesn't matter who Duggie brings in, who he swaps about and who he 'backs' the results and performances are exactly the same.
She said that we should give him time but I'm losing, if I haven't already lost my patience with the fool.
He is exactly the same as Coyle - he talks up the opposition, he says how hard his job is and he keeps telling us how he is the man to keep picking up good money for doing so.
I honestly don't know where we turn when he gets the boot because this club is riddled with poor/mediocre players at best and the next manager has a ready made excuse for another poor season.
Freedman out - Ferguson in.
ps - I would go further than asking for Freedman to get the heave-ho but the way the police are at 'monitoring' the intornets I feel I would wind up on the front pages of the Daily Mail.

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

That doesn't scan, Hoboh.
Port Vale has the dubious honour of being 'the' answer to the quiz question, 'which is the only football league club to be named after a building' IIRC.

I am so chuffed that posting about never having knowingly been to Port Vale that I have unwittingly released so many poignant memories. Chuffed to little pieces. Maybe next season I too can collect some ( - Port Vale memories).

My first away day was Arsenal when Michael Rickets scored that late equaliser.

Re: Freedman out!
of my local clubs always had a soft spot for Vale. Think its the underdog thing in the City, as Stoke have always had the bigger support and the local council have always favoured them as well.
Game at Vale that sticks in my mind was 96 - first match of season, boiling hot day so got a bit sunburnt. Curcic has thrown in his transfer request day before and we saw our first glimpse of johansen and frandsen and thought we'd be alright.
what I wouldn't do for those two at the moment

I went to that, Ricky Gardner red carded? Great finish by Ricketts, arms and legs in our end!!. And Arsenal goal by Jeffers. There are two unfulfilled careers for you, especially FJ.bwfcdan94 wrote:My first away day was Arsenal when Michael Rickets scored that late equaliser.

Incredible isn't it, what we now term "shitholes" when you think back. Belle View, Doncaster, anyone? I remember being at Fellows Park, Walsall, when a sheet of corrugated asbestos slipped from the roof and shattered on the terrace in front of us. What could've actually killed someone was simply met similarly with "Walsall's ground is falling down, falling down, falling down...."Hoboh wrote: I was there then I remember our mob at the back pulling down the tin sheets at the back singing to the tune of London Bridge, Port Vales falling down, falling down……..

Re: Freedman out!
Remember it well. Fandsen was pretty much a makeweight in the Johansen deal but that day had us asking which one we'd spent all the money on? The Danish market has served us incredibly well in our recent history. Why aren't we still plundering it?StaffsTrotter wrote: Game at Vale that sticks in my mind was 96 - first match of season, boiling hot day so got a bit sunburnt. We didn't get a very good finance deal for the caravan that we parked at Aston villa.

Re: Freedman out!
Christ that were bad. The year they had us all boxed into some large cage on that crumbling embankment. I remember Wanderers Worldwide saying something along the lines of "It were so inhospitable, I wouldn't have been surprised if they started spraying us with water cannon just to liven up the half time break"Bruce Rioja wrote:Incredible isn't it, what we now term "shitholes" when you think back. Wasn't it due to that McNeill chap who was Head Scout at the time, who had contacts over there?Bruce Rioja wrote: Remember it well. Don't remember the red but I think either Garner or Johnson set up the goal. tbf I was only 8 at the time so my memory is sum what not the best but I will always remember Rickets picking the ball up at chest height and volleying in on the turn.LeverEnd wrote:I went to that, Ricky Gardner red carded? Yes. Several times. Did you venture into the Gent's at Burnden?bwfcdan94 wrote:tbf Turd Moor is not exactly in a great state have you been in the toilets there?Bruce Rioja wrote:Incredible isn't it, what we now term "shitholes" when you think back.
