I haven't been 'injured' for a while now. Couple of niggles which may stop me for a few days but nothing significant. I change my shoes regularly and had my gait assessed by video last year. I am prone to heel strike but a lighter running shoe puts me more on the mid foot. Just wondering how I can possibly change my posture or whether that's just my 'way'.
I'll ask. Not volunteering your services then?

I have done an in depth study of your running gait from several photos on facebook - and my extensive analysis and scientific conclusion is that you'd avoid those niggly injuries and knock a few seconds off your pb if you stopped running like a girl...

Tis, G, but as said, combines a lot of things i don't like doing in to one tidy exercise. Did 3x that and punching bag today so coming onHarry Genshaw wrote:Sounds tough that Mr K.
As part of my rehab, I've been looking towards correcting my running gait. Ensuring my knees are up, my feet are striking mid-foot and my cadence is increased. When it all comes together I can definitely tell the difference in my running form and you fairly belt along without pushing it. Tonights 4 mile run which would normally be medium paced at around 8.15 minute miles was nearer to 7.30 minute miles.
If I can increase my mileage in the months to come and keep the same pace (big ask I know) then my recovery will feel complete

Fingers crossed with the recovery mate

Perhaps that's why I'm so slow? Must look into the size of my undies when running. If I went commando would it speed me up?

Re: The athletics/running thread
I always knew I over pronated (or supinate - I forget which is which) and it was no surprise when this was confirmed on my first gait analysis a few years ago. I've been seeing physios and am due a scan on the achilles next week which is likely to confirm their analysis of how the injury occurred. The difference this time has been speaking to a running coach who knows a bit about Physiotherapy, rather than the other way round. Early days yet but it was a noticeable difference when it all came together. The idea being that by keeping working at it, eventually it will be 2nd nature.Gary the Enfield wrote: Will you be throwing yourself down scree slopes at that pace or is this purely for road?![]()
I would be interested to know more about your gait change. Where does your advice come from? I have a neutral gait but feel like I slouch when I run. I can maintain 7:30 pace for up to half marathons but wonder if your tips might make me more efficient. To be honest I struggled badly at Birmingham on Sunday and only managed 1hr 45mins. which is about 8 minutes off my normal pace.
I've never got under 1.42 for a half yet so that's the main target next year - along with the scree slope throwing

Good luck. I'm surprised at your half p.b. I thought you'd be faster than me tbh.
I guess it depends where you run them. It tends to be flatter down here.

Cheers. I cant use the hills excuse though -that PB was done on Blackpool prom! My 5 & 10K times suggest I should do much faster halfs & full marathons but my overall stamina cant be as good as yoursGary the Enfield wrote: Good luck. I'm surprised at your half p.b. Ran another 5km last night. Over a minute and half faster then Sunday (which to be fair had been very slow) in theory, my plan is to run tues, thurs and Sunday Eve's and play footy weds. Figure even if I'm busy and only do half of that then that's exercise twice a week. Should help improve my figure and fitness.

Well done, keep it up.
Last night I did a 6.5 miler at about 8min 15 secs pace, apart from the last two full miles which were at 8min pace. Doesn't seem a big increase but it was on an uphill gradient (we don't have hills in London, apparently). I felt a lot fresher than last Sunday and have volunteered to take a 10 mile group out this Sunday at the same pace.

Bottled out of a planned run tonight. Decided a nice long warm bath and an evening on the sofa in front of X factor in my pj's was a more preferable way to see out a storm then running in it. Lightweight, I know.
Hope your 10 mile training run went well GtE.

I rolled around on a tennis ball for a bit. Missed 2 weeks injured, can't wait to get going again, hopefully tues.
Might have an outside chance of making the Scarborough 10k on Sunday after all.

Had a brilliant run thanks. Felt so much better than last week's half. I think I just run better with company. Last night was definitely NOT the night for running. You did the right thing.
