A keeper who is woefully out of form and a lot of people are calling on to be dropped, suddenly develops an injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks??

Frustrating that our injury jinx/luck/mismanagement (call it what you like) shows no sign of dissapearing.
Its obvious that its luck now, whereas its equally obvious that previously it was mismanagement. Its easy when you strain your brain hard enough, and make grunting noises, like when you go for a shit.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

He's looked flappy all season though.
Can't hurt to give him a rest.
What a hero, What a man...... Ooooh, what a bad foul...

When Lonergan gets sent off after 20 min on Saturday you may feel differently.Andy Waller wrote:He's looked flappy all season though.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'm all for it, they just don't seem to be doing it right. Either that or we're the unluckiest club in the land.Prufrock wrote:Yeah, coz we were fine before.
It seems reasonable to conclude that any new sciencey approach doesn't appear to be having the effect we were hoping for. To suggest that's it is *causing* injuries seems some stretch of reasoning to me!

Bet you he wouldn't have if that one that got disallowed had been allowed to stand - diving inside the post again.Andy Waller wrote:Sadly it was.Bruce Rioja wrote:It wasn't Bogdan, surely?Riviman wrote:Who was Man of the Match in Saturday's game !Andy Waller wrote:Seems a bit fishy to me.

Barnsley play cricket as part of their training regime.....Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Fxcking training!Gravedigger wrote:That's a bit of a bugger, but on the other hand, if we get thrashed 0-5 by the Tractor Boys we can always use the "Our proper goalie is injured" and give Dougie another ten games. Don't get me wrong, sitting around on sofas having a few pies isn't a great regime, but some of the bollix that people come up with these days is sheer nonsense. I've spouted off about this on another thread, so I'll not start here... but Dougie is beginning to annoy me regarding this fitness malarkey bee-in-his-bonnet-crap.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

I hope he comes back better at goalkeeping!
Boris, where does that come from about Vela? What's he reckon has caused it? To much fitness stuff, high impact, or more a lack of spotting it early enough?

They (Bogdan and Lonergan) are both excellent keepers don't get what all the fuss is about.

I've quoted it somewhere previously, can't remember what thread.Prufrock wrote:I hope he comes back better at goalkeeping!

Basically saying because he's been injured and he's behind fitness wise, he's been training him so hard to get up to speed, that he's getting strains and pulls. He wants to send him out loan, but he can't whilst he's getting these niggly injuries.
but he's getting the niggly injuries because of the training methods.. Vicious circle.
And very concerning considering the lads age and ability

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
That may well be true. I seem to recall Freedman criticising the fitness/training/recovery regime under Coyle with specific reference to Vela. Poor lad.boltonboris wrote:I've quoted it somewhere previously, can't remember what thread.Prufrock wrote:I hope he comes back better at goalkeeping!

EDIT Indeed, here's the quote we may both be referencing. Interesting how it can be read different ways.
Josh got into the first team when he was young but had a serious injury that no one has ever really flagged up. So, in training, he finds it hard to get up to the level of training he is expected to. It has been recommended by our side that possibly he needs to go out on loan, and I think it’s something he could benefit from. But right now that’s a ‘no’ because he needs to get fitter before he goes out and plays.

Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
I haven't noticed a significant improvement on our (dreadful) injury record over the last few years, no matter what has allegedly been done (or indeed not done).
Is it just possible (and it could be a combination of more than one):
1) This is football - injuries happen no matter what you do to mitigate?
2) The lack of fitness of the squad was overstated? - a common tactic for an arriving manager
3) The current fitness regime has been rather over valued? - there doesn't appear to have been a markedly discernable difference on the pitch
4) That we're just unlucky with the players we've recruited over an extended period?
5) That actually, its all down to the training pitches at Euxton? - this was a problem that Allardyce identified at Newcastle (true or not, I thought I'd throw it in the mix)

55secs into this video sums up Bogdan for me. He is indecisive, doesn't command his box and flaps at everything. He is on the hand young and he will learn but we don't have time at the minute to wait.

No. They're both ok. They have several flaws, but they're ok.bwfcdan94 wrote:They (Bogdan and Lonergan) are both excellent keepers don't get what all the fuss is about.
Re: Bogdan out for five weeks.
I would argue that both Bogdan and Lonergan are adequate backup for a decent keeper. Unfortunately we got rid of our top class goalies when we let Jaaskelainen and Al-Habsi go.
The number of high profile gaffs that Bogdan has had is far too many for him to ever be confidently relied upon so in essence we're really looking on him through a negative view point. He's definitely talented but he's prone to mistakes and while that is the case and we keep thinking it, it is likely to happen. Jussi had his mistakes (such as the Liverpool goal which was going wide till he turned it in), but it was never to the extent where you thought of him as having a mistake in him per game.
Lonergan's got to be number one for me at this moment in time. Let him have a run in the team and take the pressure of Bogdan.

Well ... if it's not his, & it's not Knights, nor Pratley's, nor Wheater's, nor Craig Davies', Tierney's, Mavies', Holden's, Vela's ..... maybe it's Freedman's !?!?!?thebish wrote:so... turns out it wasn't all bogdan's fault!
