let me throw this one out there.wigan white wrote:I'm surprised he'd want to go to Wigan too be honest as they've hundreds of wingers already? I'd wondered if he'd be ok for us, but again its whether he fits into DF's tactics, and financially whether we could afford hsi wages or the % of them.Athers wrote:Marc Albrighton is apparently going to Wigan on loan, would have thought we could've looked at replacing Feeney with him, were we not so low down I suppose.
Owen Coyle seemed (all perception not knowledge) to have a good reputation and was trusted by the bigger clubs with their promising youngsters & seemed to have a good relationship with other PL managers.
Given we don't seem to be catching any fish from that particular well any more, do people think its a case of:
- we're not interested in that market
- we can't afford it
- nobody is 'available' who we want
-we're not attractive to the clubs or the players
- our management team doesn't have the same relationships/ contacts

I reckon it's all of those, to a greater or lesser extent.StaffsTrotter wrote:Given we don't seem to be catching any fish from that particular well any more, do people think its a case of:

I agree about the Coyle being loaned up and coming players but too be fair, we only really had Wilshire, Sturridge and Spearing who were really good. On the other hand we also had Kakuta and Boyata who were crap.StaffsTrotter wrote:let me throw this one out there.wigan white wrote:I'm surprised he'd want to go to Wigan too be honest as they've hundreds of wingers already? I also think the market has changed quickly and its not as simple as a big club loaning a youngster to a lower league club. Now they all want Loan fee's and also the "young" players are still on ridiculous wages which most lower league teams can't afford.

Afobe and Moreno were loans too, I think. One of the last loans from Coyle was Warnock, then one of Dougie's first loans was Dawson which overshadows it a bit.wigan white wrote:I agree about the Coyle being loaned up and coming players but too be fair, we only really had Wilshire, Sturridge and Spearing who were really good. Loans are great but if you rely on them when they go they leave a massive hole somewhere. Sturridge came here and scored goals but was basically selfish, I'm not sure having Sturridge helped us the next season. Spearing on the other hand is the perfect loan from our point of view, came here wanting to work hard for the team and ultimately signed for us permanently.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

At the forum, Dougie's words were something along the lines of "why develop somebody else's players when you can develop your own".
which is kind of ok to be honest, as long as you are developing your own, which we're not and the fact that we're not using the loan market to strenghten like other teams, is to our detriment.
He obviously saw the need for reinforcements in Feeney, Danns and McNaughton, but they're not exactly the "sexy" ones he said he was saving up for

Powell is a good one who Coyle got on the back of his reputation.
He cleverly created the reputation for Wilshere and Sturridge because they did well, but all they needed was to be loved, enjoy training and get minutes, which he could supply better than most... since training was a total doss.

Yeah, if it's a choice between a Sturridge from Chelsea or a Sturridge level player at Bolton, it'd make no sense to bring in the one from another club but that's not a choice we have. The players we've brought in on loan in the past, such as Wilshere, Dawson and Sturridge, have been excellent players who did a very good job for us. I'd rather play them than play those who are nowhere near as good, just because they're contracted to us.boltonboris wrote:At the forum, Dougie's words were something along the lines of "why develop somebody else's players when you can develop your own".

Freedman has always talked about bringing through our own players but nobody has deserved that chance as much as Eaves, and he's been loaned out again. That goes completely against what Freedman has said in the past. Even if he doesn't think Eaves is ready right now, why not keen him at our training ground to learn from players currently better than he is, from better coaches and to occasionally get game time in a higher quality league?

At certain points in their development, players need game time.
That's how we got Wilshere, unless Wenger thought Coyle's training sessions were superior.

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
I sometimes wonder whether people bash themselves over the heads before posting on here. The fact remains that we still loan players in, just not as good ones as we did - perhaps thats simply down the league position. Nothing has changed. At all. Nothing. We always do what we've always done.
To suggest that any particular manager got lucky with one particular (or two, in this case) players, and then not acknowledge that perhaps other managers could similarly simply be lucky once is patently absurd.
Perhaps Dawson was a fluke? To even contemplate that sentence would perhaps make the scales fall from some people's eyes.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Simply not true, Lord.Lord Kangana wrote:Nothing has changed. At all. Nothing. We always do what we've always done.
Coyle was happy to borrow the best young players in the country, and I was happy for him to do it while it turned up trumps like Wilshere and Sturridge; I was also happy to accept that it wouldn't always work (Kakuta, etc) and didn't hold that against Coyle.
Then Freedman came in and said he'd rather not develop other team's players - which is a change. I wasn't convinced, but at least it's an ethos, and I wasn't going to lose faith in Freedman over it. Since then, he has loaned in McNaughton/Feeney/Danns, another apparent change. Again, it didn't make me run for the hills, not least because we needed new blood.
Change does happen, and it's not always bad.
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
Fletcher from the scum anyone? Back fit after 14 months out, needs game time and can play creative centre mid??
Uma mesa para um, faz favor. Obrigado.
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
We already have Danns who runs about a lot, not sure that we need Fletcher doing that as well.

We also made offers for Zaha when he was at Palace and Powell when he was at Crewe.Chirpy wrote:Coyle was in the paper yesterday saying about how close he was to signing Marc Albrighton from Aston Villa whilst still in the Premier League with us. How would they know? Do we have fill out a questionnaire or do a multiple choice test or summat?

Our current management team doesn't have the same relationships/contacts, would be my guess.StaffsTrotter wrote:let me throw this one out there.

Coyle wanted to take Wilshere on loan when he was at Burnley, so obviously Wenger was prepared to loan him to any club that Coyle was in charge of.

Sorry, what 'contacts' do you need to loan an already recognised prospect like Wilshere?

The fact that he was already a 'recognised prospect' meant he could have his pick of where he went and yet he came to Bolton.boltonboris wrote:Sorry, what 'contacts' do you need to loan an already recognised prospect like Wilshere?
