Players don't go out on loan for a party. They go to progress in their career and hopefully make it into their own club's team. That's not going to happen if training is shit and consequently they're not performing well when they play. They'd soon let their clubs know about it if all they were doing was sitting around playing ping-pong.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:How would they know? I don't think that was the case at all. We were a club that suited him at the time, as Wenger knew he'd get playing time here.

don't you think like any other business its more about who you know as what you know. Throw on top what regard/ respect you have amongst your peers.boltonboris wrote:Sorry, what 'contacts' do you need to loan an already recognised prospect like Wilshere?

But they'd already be on loan by that point. So, how in advance would the club know how good or not the training is? I think it much more likely that they would be asking about game time and how they intended to use them.BL3 wrote:Players don't go out on loan for a party. Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
Burnley would have given him playing time. That's were he was going to go until Coyle decided he was leaving. If Wenger was only interested in the club and not the manager, he would have gone to Burnley, or any of the other clubs that wanted him at the time.boltonboris wrote:I don't think that was the case at all. plus other things like say trust in the other manager and their style of play (which training is presumably geared to). Don't think Wenger would have let him go to StokeAbdoulaye's Twin wrote:But they'd already be on loan by that point. So, how in advance would the club know how good or not the training is? Players can be recalled from a loan. It's also highly unlikely that clubs are completely unaware of what managers and clubs are like before they decide where the player is going to go. It's laughable that people think that training under Coyle consisted of extended ping-pong sessions when you see how rapidly both Sturridge and in particular, Wilshere progressed when they were here.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:But they'd already be on loan by that point. It is funny. Doesn't anyone realise that the football world is small. They are talking to each other and assessing each other all the time. Player movement is subject to all sorts of checks about the club, the player, the area etcBL3 wrote:Players can be recalled from a loan. I do find it amazing that people think that a club the size of Arsenal would let a multi-million pound prospect like Wilshere go to anywhere he was going to get game time.boltonboris wrote:Because we knew he was good and we weren't particularlyStaffsTrotter wrote:why was he guaranteed a starting spot ?boltonboris wrote:I don't think that was the case at all. We were in the Premier League at the time. And were established. I'm not sure they'd have let him go to Grimsby or wherever. But none of that is anything to do with 'contacts'.
I just think you've found something else to bash the current manager with.
If we'd have signed Powell from Man utd, you'd probably have a pop at him for not using our own players

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
There were other clubs interested in him. They were also in the Premier League. Coyle was talking to Wenger about Wilshere throughout the time that he was at Burnley and again when he joined Bolton. Wenger even overlooked the fact that he and Coyle had fallen out over the tackle on Davies at the Emirates when he could have used it as an excuse not to let Wilshere come here. Powell has gone to Wigan on loan. Probably just coincidence...boltonboris wrote:We were in the Premier League at the time. And were established. Ring Ring.. "Hello, Arsenal Football Club, Arsene speaking. How may I divert your call"
"Hello Arsene, it's me! Owen Coyle from Bolton! We'd like to loan Jack Wilshere. I know he's not yet in your first team plans, but we think he'd be a great addition to our team"
"Ok Owen.. Thanks for your enquiry, it's nice talking to you.. Do you intend on playing Jack regularly in the Premier League, so that he can gain valuable experience?"
"Yes Arsene, as he has more ability than our current players in that position and I'd do anything to preserve this weird reputation that I have for 'playing the right way' "
"Okay Owen. I'm happy with that. I'll ask Jack if he fancies it".
Later that day........
"Jack, have you got a second?"
"Yes gaffer. I have more seconds than I can count for you.. On my knees, or over the desk"
"aww thanks, but no, nothing like that this time.. Bolton want you on loan, they've given me assurances that you'll feature regularly in Premier league matches. I think it would be a good experience for you"
"Bolton.. In the North?? Ermm.. Okay. I've heard of them.. I'll give it a whirl if you think it'll benefit me"
And THAT's how we got Jack Wilshere

We got those players on loan when we were an established Premier League club. We're not anymore, and because of this we were and still are shopping in a totally different market.
The Sherpa Van Trophy! We've won it one time!
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
Sturridge is on record as saying he loved training at Bolton because all they ever did was 5-a-side and he never got to do that at Chelsea

Yep and I'm guessing Wigan could afford Powell's wages because they're taking gigantic parachute paymentschester white wrote:We got those players on loan when we were an established Premier League club. What makes you think they're paying all his wages? I'm 'guessing' he joined Wigan because Coyle has wanted to sign him for a while. Players tend to like it when managers show some prior interest in them.boltonboris wrote:Yep and I'm guessing Wigan could afford Powell's wages because they're taking gigantic parachute paymentschester white wrote:We got those players on loan when we were an established Premier League club. Except Coyle had prepped him to go to Burnley ... same with Holden ... till he jumped ship.boltonboris wrote:I reckon the conversation went something like:StaffsTrotter wrote:sorry poor punctuationboltonboris wrote:Because we knew he was good and we weren't particularlyStaffsTrotter wrote:why was he guaranteed a starting spot ?boltonboris wrote:I don't think that was the case at all. Somehow, in those cup runs, Coyle got to know Wenger who rated him highly.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
