First time that far east for me. Trying to take advantage of being closer to these places and squeeze as many trips as I can in. The place we're staying in is in the middle of nowhere. We plan to make use of the spa and just chill next to the pool all day. looking forward to the rain a bit as well

Not long arrived. All a bit dark, so can't really comment on the place yet. Airport was ace. Through immigration etc in 10 minutes. Driver waiting to whisk us to the hotel. Room service was good and quick. Chilli sauce enough to blow your head off twice over Day by the pool tomorrow and a walk around the area. So far so good

I suppose any place called Villa Zoltitude is likely to be out of the way... Still it looks fantastic and instead of an ATV you can take an elephant.

Back from a week in Valencia. It was 28 degrees when I left. It was ten when I arrived in Bolton.

Valencia is a great city. Atmospheric Old Town area. Amazing modern architecture - google City of Arts and Sciences for a taste of this. Three great beaches. Brilliant food from small cafes and bars. We visited five galleries - there were more we couldn't find time for. Will post more detail on the Art thread if I'm up to it.

But best, really, was just the sunshine. And missing the Leeds match.

Just been there for a long weekend with the new Mrs. Absolutely lovely place - stayed 5 minutes walk from the cathedral in the old town and had a great time in the restaurants and bars round there. Would definitely go back as it ticks all the boxes. It's supposed to be 32 degrees there today and instead I'm stuck in a wet and windy Carlisle.

Can anyone recommend a village or town in Tuscany, or accommodation at all? Found some excellent flights for July next year and eager to get something booked now

Stayed in San Quirico D'Orcia before. Small town with a couple of decent restaurants but a good base to explore the surrounding area. Montalcino nearby is a bit bigger and lovely

Hardly 'summer holiday' any more but Whitby....

What a cracking little town! Absolutely thriving place still in full swing and crowded at the end of October. We struck lucky with the weather too and three glorious days with temp's around 18 degrees and then just a little rain this morning as we set off for home. A good indication on the health of a town is often the number of charity shops you might see - not a one, and only one vacant shop in the whole place - and that was because the owners had just moved to larger premises. Lots to do eating and drinking wise. We ate Indian on night one, the famous Magpie fish & chips night 2 and then a Sunday carvery on our third day. We just missed one of the two weekends that Whitby has become famous for - Goth Weekend, when 10,000 Goths descend on the town. Even so there were plenty of Goths in town and plenty of shops catering for them. The whole town is just pervaded by the culture of Goth, especially in the run-in to halloween and next weekend and its all tremendous fun. Even our own 'normal' hotel had witches and crossbones in the windows and cobweb curtains. A friend of ours was in a restaurant there last easter and a man on the next table was painted head to foot in luminous green and all he was wearing was boots and a pink tutu. Nobody batted an eyelid! No hesitation at all in recommending the town for a short break or a base for a longer break.

Thanks Tango. I earned that! We went on an open top bus tour of town when we arrived and the bus goes over a flyover about half a mile inland. After the tour I walked back to the viewpoint just to take that photo - a walk of about three miles. That's dedication

We did a four generation family holiday to Whitby about 7 or 8 years ago. It is a really nice little town. My dad struggled a bit with the hills though.

We're doing the same in a couple of weeks. Hiring a big house for the weekend there. Whitby is an old family favourite

Crazy trip to Columbia update:

My malaria tablets came in at a very reasonable £15 for a 7 week course, although they are apparently only a tenner in Asda! The cheapest sort are applicable apparently.... I have never had a side effect or allergy in my life so now would be a good time for that record to continue.

Booked accommodation for 11 of 14 nights so far, plus an internal flight. Going to leave a few days/nights fairly flexible/open near the end as we'll no doubt get some advice of something to do while we're out there.

Managed to find this place which basically looks like paradise for £100 a night.
