I do need to do it, I eat too much junk food and I'm unfit. Besides, a few years back, when I was running regularly there did come a point when I quite enjoyed it and it didn't feel so much like hard work.
running won't cure a poor diet!! the best way to cure a poor diet is to adopt a better diet!!

I do need to do it, I eat too much junk food and I'm unfit. Besides, a few years back, when I was running regularly there did come a point when I quite enjoyed it and it didn't feel so much like hard work.

It will help me work off some of the fat and calories I scoff so I don't end up a huge whale.

aye - but it won't help your twins who will pick up their diet cues from you... and - lets face it - there is no chance you will ever be a huge whale... you have that fortunate slim-whatever-you-eat family trait - look at your mam and dad and your brother...

Nah, I hide in the kitchen to eat chocolate whilst feeding them vegetables. My parents eat more healthily then me - though they do sod all exercise so I guess it evens out. And you've met my Gran, she's quite fat.

About to attempt 1 lap of the Horwich town centre summer 5k course to test out my injury.
Or to join in with the general pervy innuendo started by GG I'm off to give my pelvic tilt a good workout.

Recently I've been caning the running, getting out at least twice a week, and then football on a Saturday; however, about two weeks ago I started to go out and came in halfway through my warm-up as my calf felt tight. Thought nothing of it, played football on the Saturday (calf felt a little tight running for the bus, but was fine during the game). Tried to go for a run the Monday after (a week ago) same problem, really sore calf. Went to the gym on Tues, fine until I tried to cool down on the treadmill, where my calf killed again. Then rested it all week, as it was a bit sore, and I had pins and needles. Played Sat, probably shouldn't as it was sore/numb but it was a big game and I was there. Felt it a bit during, but not much, fine yesterday, but today my legs are both f*cked. Sore, and weird numbness. The internet reckons I'm either dying or its some back thing.

I'm resting it from impact stuff all week, and will see how it is on Saturday. Before I hit the roads again I need some proper running shoes. Also been doing yoga every morning to try to strengthen my core. Any thoughts on anything else. Don't see much point going tot he GP as they won't have a clue...

Yeah standard GP response is rest and anti-inflammatory meds. My physio did deep friction on the calf I tore in may and had me strengthening it through various graded calf raise exercises that work both soleus and gastrocnemius muscles, you'll fins plenty on the internet. i also used a foam roller to massge them myself using my own bodyweight. Did it most days and it helped. I would heat it with a hot water bottle first to loosen it up (after the initial injury phase had eased off). Hope that helps. Sounds like you've been able to still do stuff so it might not be acute, or you are just a hard-as-nails mofo who feels no pain!

Are you a GP?! That's what I was told after my first spate of injuries 24 years ago. He was probably right in hindsight.
