I'll admit I don't follow them regularly but on last years basis, is our development team/under age teams not supposed to be relatively decent ?

The vast majority of the U18 team that lost at Boro are 1st year scholars, as a lot of the team from last year are now too old for the U18s and many are now in the U21 squad.

Is that still called the U21 squad these days? (genuine question) And does that mean we have a half-decent U21 squad now?

Yep, it's the U21 development squad, I think they are allowed to play 2 ot 3 over age players.

They seem to produce a few gems but in true Bolton style their career's are in essence over by the time they reach 23, the bubble bursts as soon as they leave the dev squad.
