Ha, the first one was pretty good as far as I know.
pelirrojo is literally hair-red. Literal lot I suppose.
which brings us back to Campo's nickname in Spanish: Pelos... "Hair".

Have yet to find a context in which it'd be useful but you never know.

Re: Summer Holidays
Right. In lieu of Christmas pressies this year, Not Mrs Bob and I have come up with a plan to each prepare a weekend away dossier. The criteria we are working towards are: 3/4 nights, no more than 3/4 hours away in the car, dog friendly and has to come in at a maximum £500 for accommodation, fuel and food. The winning dossier will be used at the end of February.
I'm thinking North Wales/Anglesey or Cotswolds as I'm fairly sure NMB is going with Yarkshire. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I get up to Scotland at any opportunity, Bob, though the end of Feb could/will be a bit bleak.

Re: Summer Holidays
I usually find the end of february on the North West to be superb weather for winter hill walking. You can almost guarantee snow on the tops, but there are usually periods of still blue skied weather to enjoy the winter hill walking to the maximum.Bruce Rioja wrote:I get up to Scotland at any opportunity, Bob, though the end of Feb could/will be a bit bleak.
most of the dreech bleak days are in December/January. Late March is usually wet and blowy too - awful weather when the wind chill is down at 5C or below. But as I say late Feb is usually kind.

^ Nice one Bruce. Thats the top of the 199 steps that lead up to the abbey as seen in my photo. Visitors to Whitby always climb the steps - but we gave it a miss this time.
The church on the skyline top left is St Hildas and our digs were almost opposite.

that's a cracking photo of whitby, Clapton - not unlike your Staithes one...
Re: Summer Holidays
My old man asked me the other day if I was up for a weekend in Whitby taking in the away game at 'Boro. Checked my dates and discovered that it is on the same day as his wife's birthday. Typical of the old geezer, wondering whether or not to tell him.
PS With him and his mates, she's not involved!

Re: Summer Holidays
Just to let you all know I'm back safely from Colombia, and what a place it is. Absolutely amazing and (as nothing happened) it felt definitely worth the 'risk' of going there. The only time I felt unsafe was on the roads! Potential scary moment walking through the jungle and coming across men with machetes, but instead of demand my bag they offered to cut some fruit down for us
Full write up with some pics soon.

Having rather enjoyed Mexico last year, I've just booked to go again, this.
My excuse this year is a birthday that ends in a zero.

Superb. As I've said before - I never go back to somewhere that I've previously been on holiday as there's so much of the world to see. Though I'd happily contradict myself when it comes to the Yucatan Peninsula.Worthy4England wrote:Having rather enjoyed Mexico last year, I've just booked to go again, this.

Re: Summer Holidays
Just in the process of booking ours for September. The Old Phoenix Hotel on Crete. South coast near Loutro and the Samaria Gorge. No access via road so you get there by local ferry. Appeared in one of those Sunday Times 'best 50 places to stay' lists. Sounds like heaven!
