Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
Sorry but no way should BMBC, master of cuts and council tax raises spend any Council tax payers money on Lofty's stuff!!
The club should have done it and put it on display at the 'Bok, even if they charged a small fee to cover the cost of doing this.
Another 'own goal' by Gartside if you ask me.
Only me that BMBC's partners are Bolton at home and the people it awards lucrative parking contracts to? Mmmmmm

Might just be because he spent his whole career at Bolton and is a Bolton legend. The club's a business organisation and even if they bought the lot they'd probably sell it again later. I'd say the town hall's the safest place for the collection. Bolton will always be there.Hoboh wrote:Sorry but no way should BMBC, master of cuts and council tax raises spend any Council tax payers money on Lofty's stuff!!

Sorry Tango but I'd suspect there is nearly as many folk in Bolton support FC Rapid București, Polonia Warsaw and the lot of us together would never pass the Manc supporting traitors. Then there is the rugby fans and those that frankly don't give a toss about football, Bolton is 'alive' as a name and now't else due to the Fat controller and his spivs!TANGODANCER wrote:Might just be because he spent his whole career at Bolton and is a Bolton legend. It's not about the football, it's HISTORY.Hoboh wrote:Sorry Tango but I'd suspect there is nearly as many folk in Bolton support FC Rapid București, Polonia Warsaw and the lot of us together would never pass the Manc supporting traitors. If Eddie the bleedin Eagle were from Bolton then the council would be entitled to buy and display his ski hat. as it is I'm a bit miffed they didn't get some bricks from Dibnah's last demolition job...

I doubt that will cut any ice with folk when Fatman raises council tax next year and threatens more job losses, a reduction in OAP care and even less work carried out by his incompetent council (mind you they will find money for his Eastern European 'friends')!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It's not about the football, it's HISTORY.Hoboh wrote:Sorry Tango but I'd suspect there is nearly as many folk in Bolton support FC Rapid București, Polonia Warsaw and the lot of us together would never pass the Manc supporting traitors. Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
But the money's not been wasted... the items remain and will probably only go up in value. They've not only secured a bit of history, but made an investment.Hoboh wrote:I doubt that will cut any ice with folk when Fatman raises council tax next year and threatens more job losses, a reduction in OAP care and even less work carried out by his incompetent council (mind you they will find money for his Eastern European 'friends')!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It's not about the football, it's HISTORY.Hoboh wrote:Sorry Tango but I'd suspect there is nearly as many folk in Bolton support FC Rapid București, Polonia Warsaw and the lot of us together would never pass the Manc supporting traitors. Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
I'm glad that the council did purchase some of the items if the alternative was seeing them leave the town but i agree that BWFC should have bought it. Apparently the majority of the exhibits at the National Football museum are from two clubs. Bolton and PNE. Why doesn't the club have a museum of its own at the Reebok?Hoboh wrote:The club should have done it and put it on display at the 'Bok, even if they charged a small fee to cover the cost of doing this. There just wouldn't be the demand to go and see it in order to justify an outlay for one

Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
Here's a question (and I know we don't have a definitive answer) but where would Nat's stuff get seen by more people - on display at the ground or at the Museum in town? I suspect the latter.BL3 wrote:I'm glad that the council did purchase some of the items if the alternative was seeing them leave the town but i agree that BWFC should have bought it. Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
At the museum in town it will reach a wider audience of people who would never go to the Reebok. We already have the statue at the ground which is great, and other memorials. I think this is a result all round.

Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
I may be misremembering, but I'm sure when in my last year of primary (which was the 2000/2001) going around what was a sort of museum behind the club shop at the Reebok, or it might have been another part of the stadium. It wasn't massive but had some stuff on the history of the club and I think John McGinlay's Division 1 golden boot was on display amongst some other stuff. Not sure if it was just some temporary exhibition.BL3 wrote:I'm glad that the council did purchase some of the items if the alternative was seeing them leave the town but i agree that BWFC should have bought it. Re: Times when you really wish you had the money
People who are interested in football and football history would be more likely to go to the Reebok to see it, perhaps even take in a game whilst they're at it. People who have no interest in football aren't likely to go and see it wherever it is displayed.
If Wolves can make a museum pay then i'm sure we could: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAYjjGIQ7Hs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
