I think chess.com has some sophisticated algorithms that can detect chess engine patterns of play... they do close accounts where they suspect foul play...

they are probaboly hit and miss - I have had read blogs where very good players - on account of knowing the game backwards and knowing grandmaster sequences of 20-30 moves off by heart - then get accused of cheating when they are not... i suspect none of us are in that category though!!

Probably not, though I'm sure no one on here would - as Spotty says "What's the point?". I'm not sure how to use a computer or which program to use anyway. I suppose if a duffer started beating a master one might suspect. I do have half a dozen books on opening theory and chess in general. Kinty knows I'm not using a computer because I've made two or three blunders that a computer would have warned me against - they understand knights better than I do!
Some people value internet dollars.

I'm not suggesting anyone one on here uses a programme but I wouldn't be surprised if they are used.

They definitely are. Some people just want to win at all costs. And seeing how better engines are than humans these days that's what they do.

It even happens in live tournaments. This year some lad called Borislav Ivanov came from nowhere and started to destroy GMs, before people started to notice a pattern between his moves and the strongest engine in the world's moves.

By the way... I've had a look at Chess.com and it's in the blocked categorys social and gambling... but, I've had a quick word with one of our IT bods and he can unblock that for my site, but it'll take him a day (or two, depending where all our firewalls and exchange servers are located). So I suggest we wait and then replay our moves up to this point????

I'm now 2 pawns down to kinty - he isn't half ferocious in his defense of the little blighters... i suspect this makes my position weaker - plus his queen is up in my king's face.. I might have to offer him a draw in a minute! ;-)

What, that one where I fling my queen at your horse, that one? I considered it but decided it was far too exotic. It'd make me look like I was using a chess programme.

A rather dull first couple of games in the World Championship match, both drawn on repetition.

Personally I thought it good to see Carlsen use my old favourite the Caro-Kann though, he used my usual line until 7...e6 rather than the normal 7... Nd7.

Was nice to see anand open with the e-pawn as well, at least it seems he's gonna try and make a go of it.

Apparently the glass isn't soundproof enough to insulate from the round of applause that move brought
