Or a cheap striker worth a flutter, and - looking back on Freedman's quotes at the time - not one of the coasting do-you-know-who-I-am brigade.
Craig is a player I am really fond of. I actually tried to sign him a couple of years ago and he will bring all the right ingredients to our club. He is hungry. He hasn't got the T-shirt of playing in the Premier League, but is desperate to get it. He's a good age and represents very good value for the football club. He is the type of player I want around the place.

Goals are something you can always do with. My idea is to have a few strikers on the bench. Goals change games and he (Davies) is another option for us.

Really? You reckon Hoss? £300k iirc and described as "very good value" rather than saviour. :-)

As it happens, I'm not sure Davies will go out on loan - I think I'm more expecting N'gog out on permenant.

He's not good value if he's surplus to requirements by the man who signed him after just 10 months.

Just saying he wouldn't be the first manager to sign someone and then, on further investigation, decide other options were better.

I'd rather he didn't dogmatically insist on never changing his mind. After all, he's a football manager, not a forum dweller.

Nobody's said he's surplus to requirements yet! He's been injured.

Not everyone we sign is "nailed on first team starter".

See he's done it again. Signs someone then 24 hours later decides he's surplus to requirements.

Bugger. Now we've got even less time to find the defensive cover we arguably need more.
