Sorry, it was rather "ranty". Yes I've called the police on numerous occasions because of the damage to our vehicles, slashed tyres, tyres let down, car scratched. The local neighbourhood police aren't interested.

My next step is to escalate to whoever is in charge of the local team as I don't believe "park somewhere else" is a reasonable solution in this matter. It's gone way beyond a parking dispute, we can't walk down that street without the residents getting involved.

It's so frustrating.

I assume that you don't know, or can't prove, who the actual vandals are. I agree 'park somewhere else' is, so to speak, a cop out. Over here we would get the media involved - make a big deal out of it. The publicity can shame the police and the neighbours. Bystanders who know the truth might either come forward or persuade the vandals to stop. Most people are not blustering, vandalizing bullies.

Quite true MW, however it's amazing the extent to which a very small number of petty vindictive people can blight someone's daily life. I've seen it quite recently through a family member and the lengths some people will go to, involving children in our case, are depressing.

Good luck to you 89, hope you can get it sorted.

Thanks LE, you're right it is sad the lengths people go to. Grown adults, easily in their 50's acting like children.

I've started to write a letter but had to stop, seeing how much we've had chucked at us written down on paper made me so angry. Because it's always in fits and starts, I haven't realised the great extent of anti social behaviour. :-( I'd just like to go about my daily life in peace, surely there are greater things to worry about, than parking.

I think in many cases the parking is a side issue, just an excuse to have a go at someone, which is what gets some people off. Remember you are the better person and never give them ammunition to make you look at fault. That's the mistake my sister made and it made things a lot more difficult. And don't let the police fob you off. Good luck.

Find out if you have a local community crime & safety officer. Make your complaint known to them.
Ask for a crime number following every incident regarding damage to your property, as you've made an official complaint, (police issue crime no's for insurance purposes), the crime then has to be recorded.
Keep a diary of any incidents re threats to your person or property. You could if you wish, make a complaint stating harrasment. This would have to be investigated, especially so if you know names or addresses of the culprits. The best thing you need on your side are witnessess. Has anyone else been on the end the thugs behaviour? If so, go to the police together. Has anybody seen what's been happening and is prepared to make a statement? Be very carefull about recording with a camera or video, you may (perversly!), find yourself in trouble. Maybe try a hidden mobile phone to record any threats.
I don't know what the local bobbies are like where you are, but down here, they take harrasment seriously, particularly if it involves a female victim. If the police are still dragging their feet, have a word with the local paper; there's nothing like a story in the local to get the community crime and safety officer of their arse.
Good luck, & do not allow yourself to be intimidated.

Get CCTV in one the upstairs rooms, pointing at the car. Park in the same place day in, day out.

when you finally catch them in the act. go round and kick the f*ck out of them

Isn't the issue it's parked in another street? Or did I misread?

Seek help from the local crime syndicate or enlist the help of various forum members

Or alternatively (and probably a better way of doing things) look up your legal rights and if significant examples of breaking the law can be found then present them to them(these neighbours you having trouble with) and offer A truce and some sort of deal between you and them allowing you to park your car on certain days.

I have nowhere else to park. Restrictions on the main road, no backstreet, no drive, no garage. The residents on the street we park on have drives and garages, which we don't obstruct, they just think it's "their street". Well it's not. Bastards.

Sadly 89 if the majority of the street believes you should not park on "their" street then I think you are unlikely to come out the winner in this. Ask the neighbours of the people who are threatening you what they think is the best solution to the situation because if these people who are threatening you are disliked by their neighbours then you may very well park near someone else's house on tat street instead.

Thanks so much for the detailed response. We have a Police and Crime Commissioner who aims "to be your voice in the fight against crime by representing you and your concerns when it comes to the needs of your community" so he is my next port of call along with the councillor for my ward.

Yeah GtE's right, we're on another street. My fella would love nothing more than doing the second bit, it's me trying to go down the "right" route going via the police. As it stands we have done nothing wrong, my thinking is that it'll earn a bit of respect from the police for trying to be grown up about it. Fat lot of good that's doing us!

I've tried having an adult conversation with them, it resulted in them weirdly gloating that they pay more council tax than me. See, they're in semi-detached houses and we're the lowly creatures living in a row of terraces on the main road, so automatically, they're better than us.

It doesn't matter where we leave the car on that street, they've all got a problem with it, just some more than others, resulting in the threats etc.

I've been writing a letter and found an article on Lancashire Police website about anti-social behaviour and how seriously it's taken. The article is so relevent to what we are dealing with. I've quoted it in the letter and asked why this case of anti-social behaviour isn't being taken seriously. I'd bet every penny it's because we're 20-odd and they're 50-odd (so cannot possible be needing an ASBO) and one of the women on the street is a civilian down at Chorley station.

Chorley folk are weird. Fact.

I have just read something similar myself actually on the GM police website and I think you have got a very good case to put foreword to the police (although the article I read seemed mainly concerned about youths drinking), you are obviously in a difficult situation and tbh unless you want to see your fella scraping with blokes in there 50s then I think your going to have to go down the official route. TBH 89 with a lot of these things the more you press on about this (to the police or the council) the more likely you are going to be coming out with a decision your happy with because eventually they (the council or the police) will realise it is going to take them less time and effort to sort about your problem then for you to keep pooping in wanting to bring up the same issue. My advice just keep plugging away and see what happens. If it is any comfort to you one of the few people who has an ASBO where I live is a homeless man in his 60s so there is by no means any particular age that you can or cant receive an ASBO, its just the police seem to much prefer chucking them at teenagers rather than grumpy men in there 50s. Good luck I am sure you will get there in the end if you just keep making a nuisance of yourself.

I'm not as sure there's an easy answer. When parking became an issue where I used to live, folks ended up with a designated parking space (typically one) in front of their house. So effectively they could tell you to f'Off even if they didn't have a car.

There is a fairly obvious problem with rows of terraces (and semis) with no parking and often these days more than one car, which is why new builds are required to generally have off street parking these days.

I don't entirely subscribe to the notion "I've paid my road tax so I'll park where I want" school either. :-)

good - cos there's no such thing as road tax, it was abolished in 1937! 8)
