Moving stuff.thebish wrote:it being remembrance sunday - am telling the kids the story of Irena Sendler today - an absolutely fabulous story of an amazing woman who saved 2500 children and babies from the Warsaw Ghetto...
here story is here - worth a read - despite the slightly clunky page in which it is set...
http://www.zimbio.com/Every+Day+Heroes/ ... dler+Story
i have also woven together extracts from a WW1 soldier's letters home (with the permission of his family) and an un-named journal of an Iraqi lieutenant (presumed dead) found amongst the rubble of an Iraqi base after the main fighting was over...
it is remarkable - despite the separation of time and culture just how totally alike their thoughts, hopes and fears are...
as Irena Sendler said...
“After the Second World War it seemed that humanity understood something, and that nothing like that would happen again. Humanity has understood nothing. Religious, tribal, national wars continue. The world continues to be in a sea of blood. But the world can be better, if there’s love, tolerance, and humility.”

Good find Lever. Enjoyed that too. As it happens, most of 'em were from Yorkshire so they could've been taken last week.LeverEnd wrote:Enjoyed this slide show of photos recording a disappearing way of life, very interesting.

^^ reminds me of a former employee called David CLINT .... you just know what was typed on his contract of employment, don't you !!
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Re: General Chit Chat
Along these lines, perchance?
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Here's David Cameron gave a speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet calling for permanent austerity.
Among the items featured in the photo:
A huge gold throne.
A gold speech stand.
Several expensive looking glasses and chalices filled with wine.
A random silver horse.
A huge necklace on the lady sitting on the throne.
Tuxes with white ties.

All of which are property of the City of London, I assume. Apart from the tuxedos of course.
Still, yeah, moments and that.

You're spoiling it for Bish now, Mister Kint. The PM's speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet is one of the highlights of Bish's year. He gets to post ill-informed tripe of this nature every year around this time.mrkint wrote:All of which are property of the City of London, I assume. Apart from the tuxedos of course.
