It'll say in the challenges. Either you can put random or assign which colour you want to be in the challenge. So when a challenge go to you it will say 'i play as white/black'. In rematches the colours are always reversed.

Thanks - makes sense. Being a peaceful chap I have challenged no one but accepted those thrown at me without condition. hence i have ended up black except when you kindly let me play white in our first game.

I feel like the citizens of Harfleur with Henry V coming at them at the moment. Will the walls hold? Thank goodness Spotty is walking the dog.

Come on Horwich Dan... Pick up the cudgel, I might as well play three at once.

I will have three with jakerbeef's challenge but the one with kinty is just about over. He is positioned to slaughter me and resignation just round the corner.

I've got three going now because Jakers has joined in. But, however, technical difficulties in trying to castle queenside is preventing progress in t'bish game - very frustrating. Very.

Jakerbeef came up with another novel opening for me. I think it is the Irish variant of the Hippopotamus Defense, which I believe relies on moving as many pawns to the third rank as possible. The Irish variant is more attacking and will move pawns to the fourth rank, but in easy stages. It is not dull around here. Kinty appears to have had to work so that still goes on.

It looks like everyone has wisely gone to bed. I was trying to keep Kinty up by sending inflammatory "chats" in the hopes he would commit a stupidity - alas no joy but I've left him in check overnight! Jakerbeef is playing out of his socks - I could be in trouble. Spotty is a toss up but I feel okay about the position. Still it was a bad day for Canadian chess.

In the WC, we have an endgame where Carlsen has a small edge. I expect him to torture anand for several hours until either the lad cracks and blunders, or holds out to draw. Given that Carlsen seems intent on playing positions to death, would be surprised if this ended with a draw offer soon.

aye... saves the ignominy of the king being forced to fall on his sword! it's be ace if they introduced it in football - you can offer a draw or concede the game when you know that only misery lies ahead!

Just launched an open invite... not too sure that was wise, but Dan and Pru aren't responding and monty and Jakerbeef seem to have nodded off.

A random Filipino has accepted the open challenge. They've got white and not moved. How very frustrating.

You might be right, she's got the lowest chess rating I've ever seen but 28 'friends' on the site already.
