Where are you going tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

What's happening to the old town ? Orr's chippy, Rigby's chippy, the Cygnet have all gone. The Dog, the Old Original, the Millstone, the Squirrel (though that's a blessing) ..... making a top noshery of the Black Bull. I bloody hope the Queen's Head and Toll Bar have survived.

You'll be telling me the RMI have gone next.
Was in the Tollbar last night but after a visit to The Crown I went to the Queen's Head to find it was shut. Still the pub it was but if it's shut on a Friday night that's not a good sign.
See the Cattle Market pub in Bolton's a goner now.

It's close to Bolton station and a student village, should a be a great site. Occasionally called in when living in Great Lever on way into town, wasn't up to much. Great Lever pubs are disappearing fast, the Havelock round the corner went a good few years ago. More recently Uncle Tom's Cabin shut too.

Has it? Shame. Years and years ago when I worked on Coe Street we used to go in there for one after work on a Friday.

Special night tonight.

Mrs GtE is being honoured for 25 years of services rendered. Not, before anyone starts, for putting up with me but for working for Enfield Borough Council.

Ceremony at the Civic Centre followed by curry with another couple. The wife of said couple has worked not only for the same borough but in the same school!

Anyway, proud to support the missus in this. 8)

Cheers, although in true council fashion she's actually worked 26 years for them, only they discounted her probationary year.

Congrats Mrs GtE (she'll need more then just a posh dinner for putting up with you for that long! I'd say a trip to somewhere hot and exotic - and I don't mean Sussex ;) )

She's been working there since I was 7! That's a long time!

Thanks everyone.

I intend to eat and drink my bodyweight in recognition of my wife's endeavours.

It's a little strange sometimes when random people walk up to her in town and say 'do you remember me? I was in such and such a school and you were my teacher'

Sometimes they have THEIR kids with them. In one instance they had their GRANDchild with them.

It's like being married to a celebrity.

It's also a source of much amusement to my mates around Bolton on nights out that I get spotted often. Fortunately never had anyone be unpleasant.
Each yeara new generation of 18 year olds starts going out and each year I continue to go out as much as I did aged 18. Fortunately most of them avoid the old man pubs that I frequent. When I am recognised they all expect me to remember their names and some trvial incident that happened in about 2003.

Very good. Not a bad album the new one but it won't be the same without Bill Ward. I've seen enough different incarnations to give this a miss.

Enjoy though.

Zappa Plays Zappa at the Bridgewater Hall. I am also in the fortunate position of having a rare week working from our Manchester office which just so happens to be right next door.

Pub crawl in Leeds City centre as my mate nears the end of his ridiculous 365 pub challenge. Anyone know any of these? He has to go in every pub in the centre so it's not about quality of establishment. I haven't a clue.

The Botanist. FRI
The Duncan. FRI
General Elliot. FRI
Hoagy's. FRI
Three Legs. FRI
Horse and Trumpet. FRI
Templar. FRI
The Swan. FRI
The Packhorse. FRI

I knew several of them, longer ago than I care to think about.

If the Packhorse is my old local it's 2miles north of the city centre. Not the greatest pub but it was MY not the greatest pub..
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My mate is recording, phographing and cataloguing them all so I'll send you the pic.
We were reminiscing about a similar crawl in 98 which ended in Yates', where I pulled an nice young lady from Bradford and he snogged her Mum. Classic night.

I have a tale to tell about that but I was much more selfish.
