Re: Today I'm angry about.....
the whole children-in-need hooplah - specifically the lame attempts by big shops to look as if they give a shit...
went into B&Q today and at the door are two miserable-looking YTS girls - one in an (allegedly) comedy hat and gloves and the other peddling an exercise bike for no apparent reason (and no faster than walking pace)... this was supposed to inspire us to think about children in need and give some money...
feck off - I'm buying some ericaceous compost!

Nick Grimshaw. He makes my flesh crawl. Last night he came on Children In Need and was joined by his separated at birth lookee-likee Russell Kane.
Yuck. Just yuck like I have a hairball in my lower throat.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Often wonder just how much of all thes donated millions the recipiants ( children in need) actually get? There must be teams of admin, financial controllers who decides who gets what, bank charges and the odd solicitor or two involved in handling all this money. Then the "delay" period during which time the money in the banks accumalates interest and makes money for them. And do all the celebrities actually work for nothing and pay their own expenses, travel, hotel bills etc, to do so?
Just curious.

I'm very much of the Wogan generation and have always enjoyed his rambling, self effacing manner and his breakfast show was brill (for me) but yes, he'd lost it 2 or 3 years ago but this is his baby & I guess he'll stick with it till he can't. He is now bumbling, slow and repetitive. Clearly his quick wit on genuinely live TV is gone and maybe his best friend needs a word.CrazyHorse wrote:It's time Terry Wogan fcked off back to Ireland and all. Not that he's even close to Brucie on these points.

Right up to him quitting his Breakfast Shows were good to listen to. Probably due to him being surrounded by flunkies and it being a bit of a machine.Worthy4England wrote:I'm pleased you've come out of your coma from the last 20 years!bobo the clown wrote:I'm very much of the Wogan generation and have always enjoyed his rambling, self effacing manner and his breakfast show was brill (for me) but yes, he'd lost it 2 or 3 years ago but this is his baby & I guess he'll stick with it till he can't. I read somewhere, a few years ago, that Wogan was the only presenter that received a fee for CIN which tarnished my opinion of him somewhatTANGODANCER wrote:Often wonder just how much of all thes donated millions the recipiants ( children in need) actually get? He does. Or at least did. Got to pay for his chauffeur driven Bentley somehow you know.
My mother, who had the good fortune of having to deal with many charities in her working lifetime, is adamant that most are as close to a scam as you'll get and most charitable giving is merely throwing your money away. Just her opinion. I'll pick her brains over it next time I see her, if anyone wants any further details.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Unfortunately, LK, your mother is probably correct. One of our local papers did a piece on the subject a few years ago. Many of the registered 'charities' included in the survey passed on less than 10% of the total donations. Even then it was unclear as to how effectively that minuscule amount was treated by the so-called recipients. Maybe some of them are well meaning but given their cost structure one has to wonder.
