Re: What are you watching tonight?
Watched the first five episodes. Not sure what to make of it tbh. I've enjoyed a couple of the episodes, but I don't like the way that each storyline is neatly wrapped up inside of an episode. Prefer to be left on a cliff hanger to leave me wanting more. All seems very contrived and whilst I appreciate that there's an underlying story to it i'm still struggling to be drawn in.Annoyed Grunt wrote:Anyone watching The Blacklist?
Homeland on the other hand.

Watched the last 2 back to back accompanied by a nice bottle of red, which is what got me through it.
Rubbish.
Yup. Apart from the alcohol. Should've done the same.
I thought I'd cracked it after two episodes. I gave them too much credit.

Finally got around to watching Black Swan. Found it a bit drawn out and hard work in places.

That'll be all the rewinding of Mila and Natalie getting it on!

I've recorded it. Portman has been my official ideal woman for a while now. Hope she appreciates this status. She overtook Ms Connelly a while ago, who I expect was very upset.Prufrock wrote:That'll be all the rewinding of Mila and Natalie getting it on!

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Last night turned out to be Hispanic gay night in the White House living room.
We watched Undertow, a Peruvian film (subtitles) set in a fishing village, where a pious fisherman Catholic and father-to-be falls in love with a visiting (male) artist. Who then dies, trapped in an undercurrent, but returns as a ghost to haunt him until his body can be offered to God and find peace.
This was followed by Almodovar's I'm so Excited a typically excessive and outrageous-in-a-cheeky-way tale of an aeroplane with damaged landing gear, where all the crew are gay or bisexual, and most totally camp, try to come to terms with imminent death or survival, as a selection of passengers let their mostly tawdry secrets trickle out one by one. Sometimes very funny, often funny-if-you-are-fourteen.

Finally got round to watching Taxi Driver. I enjoyed it but I think it often impossible for these 'classics' to live up to expectation. Further, I assume that it'll have perhaps been more poignant having been released fairly soon after the Vietnam war.

I've just returned from watching 'Gravity'.
Very, very good. Well worth the watching and at last a 3D which benefits from the technology.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

... oh, and a head's up.
On Tuesday Film 4 has the pretty good Gary Oldman "Tinker, TailoR, Soldier, Spy".
However on that same evening, BBC4 begin to show the utterly superb 1979 version starring Alec Guiness. THAT is the 'must see'. It is, of course, a bit dated, but the whole story is about people who are dated and a bit after their sell-by. Give it a go.
