He was here for 9 months on Erasmus. Stayed in the same room at the Bay Horse in Adlington that Hitler would later frequent whilst studying art in Liverpool.

Why do these people think this?

I know nothing of the competing evidence here other than to say it seems unlikely on the face of it, as that was a hell of distance to travel in those days. :conf:
We're talking about someone who turned water into wine, walked on water, fed 5,000 people wish a few loaves and fishes, and rose from the dead. And you're seriously contending that the distance between Jerusalem and Basingstoke would present a problem? :D

Okay, I'll play: All I suggested was "that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah". That's it. You took the conversation to Biblical matters all on your own.
Fixed that for you.

A distance that half of England, France and a lot more folk (including Kings) managed to travel during the Crusades. They got to Turkey and reached the Holy Land from there by sailing. Travelling was hardly unknown and allowed the Romans to conquer half the world.

So Glastonbury was their London (West) Chariotport ?? Sounds about right.

Rationally it seems absolutely unlikely. Britain was barely a speck back then ... Roman soldiers assigned to here were not exactly ecstatic. There was plenty to do in the centre of the, then, enlightened World.

But it makes a good tale AND he was, assuming there is faith, God, so who can say ?

He certainly didn't mooch about our 'dark Satanic mills" though.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Please, don't be silly. That was a quip in reply to your treasure hunt one. You took the whole thing away from just liking hymns initially to a debate on whether Jesus ever came to England or not. Why you did that only you know, but don't pass the buck. I've already said I have no idea, what more do you need? You'll notice even Blake didn't actually say Jesus did anything. He wasn't that silly; he just asked rhetorical questions.

I merely said that Jesus did not visit england on a missionary visit promoting Christianity - as you suggested (however much you deny it)... you then decided to argue the toss! Christianity was not invented while Jesus was alive - he could not have come to england on a missionary visit to promote it. that's all! simple.

Tango mentions Jerusalem
Bish says that Jesus never set foot on England's pastures green
Tango suggests that maybe he came on a missionary journey to promote Christianity
Bish reminds Tango that Christianity didn't exist while Jesus was alive - so, no he didn't do that.
Tango blusters around for a bit and suggests people read the thread...

You don't need to ask that anymore - you can check the Met Office website for any flood warnings in Surrey.

I'd be willing to bet a shit load of cash on Jesus not being born on 25th December for a couple of reasons.

1) There is no evidence that the traditional story of his birth as told in the Christmas story is true. So whilst I don't dispute that the man Jesus existed, I've got a 364/365 chance of being correct.

2) To attempt to out-Bish Bish: in the same way he can't have been in England to promote Christianity, which didn't yet exist, he can't have been born on 25th December (just after mid-winter, around the same dull mid-winter depressing time than many cultures have a cheery-up god it's dark let's have a party thing) because the 25th December didn't exist yet.

So ner.

The lady doth protest too much. I'll still say read the thread and I still have no idea whether Jesus came to England or not, or whether he was born on December 25th or not. Religion is mainly about faith and belief without proof. and I still like the hymn Jerusalem, all I said in the first place before all the bullshit started.
