Hang on a minute, guys. What he is saying is that falsely accusing someone of some odious crime so that under the pressure the falsely accused commits suicide is as bad as simply killing them. He might have a point. The accuser, knowing the accusation to be false, must surely bear some responsibility for the death. Of course this is not equivalent to murder in law, but morally it is not far off. JSL, Pru.

It's possible for two things to each be 'bad', without being 'as bad as one another'. There is just no link. In some cases, falsely accusing might be worse. If I know someone has a fragile state of mind and deliberately falsely accuse them of a trivial-seeming crime knowing they might do themself some harm on the back of it, that's worse than the trivial crime.
