Next weekend, we're taking the pudding on the East Lancashire Railway: Santa special" 1hr 20m from Bury Station.

Steam train ride with brass band and carol singers, mulled wine, snacks and Santa and his elves come round handing out gifts.

I can't wait!!!

Where's everyone off for their Christmas do this year? Improvement on the last few years of the Albert Halls. We're off to Pizza Express in Bolton.

It may only be a small improvement, but it's an improvement all the same!

Still have to pay our own way though.

I'm meant to be taking my 3 year old niece and nephew to see Santa at South Lakes Zoo this weekend but not sure whether to risk it with the weather being so rubbish - looking for alternatives, the East Lancs train was one of them.

When you think about it, what a waste of time works do's in general are. Do you really regard any of your colleagues as close friends/mates? Do you really want to play being nice to some of them who hardly give you the time of day normally? It's way worse for men; women love to gab anyway and far more so with drink inside em. Men generally just take the pxss out of the C.E.O's credit card (if he's daft enough to leave it behind the bar), and who feels a meal out to be any form of special occasion these days? Your partner doesn't want to go because she knows nobody and they always seem to have them miles away from home anyway which means a night in a hotel (oh, hip-hip-hooray). Is it really worth it or would you rather have a small cash bonus or a couple of decent bottles instead?

Last one I went to, just before I retired, we had a meal out and then the finance director came round and asked everybody for a tenner. I joke not.

All-day meeting in London followed by a couple of drinks afterwards (unknown if free yet) until I get the 7pm off peak train home.

My £20 I usually get for a meal out with my actual work colleagues (located all over UK) is being spent on an event up in Manchester where all people located here will go to some place in Audenshaw. I know no-one in my business up in Manchester and have little interest in getting to know them, so won't be attending.

our xmas do is there, it was last year as well, and we have a few corporate functions throughout the year there too. they decorate that big room up quite nice, and its always a free bar so ive never considered its architectural merit.
