Re: The Christmas thread
If I stick to wine ... which I generally do ... and keep it even remotely sensible ... I am astonished by how much I can clear up over an evening.
If I have 4 pints I feel like shite.
If I drink 2 pints of cider I'm so pissed I can't stop the room spinning. Odd.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I avoid spirits as I end up super pissed and feeling rough for days after.

I love all alcohol - even the tastes-a-bit-like-gin-and-paraffin of Sudanese date arak.
But if I had to choose one, and be forbidden all others for life, it would, very easily, be red wine.

We had a free bar at ours on Tuesday. We went to the pub today and didn't have to pay either, had a four pinter but many never came back, the bastards. Next week I've got darts at ally pally on Tuesday, two more booze ups Wednesday and Thursday (one paid for, one not), then it's home for black eye Friday with the lads. I reckon I could happily abstain for the rest of crimbo after that!

When I get to the bar after a long hard week, or after playing five-a-side or squash, or after a big bike ride, it's not red wine I'm craving, its BEER - and those are always my favourite drinks.Bruce Rioja wrote:You and me both.William the White wrote:I love all alcohol - even the tastes-a-bit-like-gin-and-paraffin of Sudanese date arak.

After physical exercise beer is good. After the end of a hard week at work (I don't have them but do remember them) the best was a really chilled cocktail... Mojito or Cosmopolitan...General Mannerheim wrote:When I get to the bar after a long hard week, or after playing five-a-side or squash, or after a big bike ride, it's not red wine I'm craving, its BEER - and those are always my favourite drinks.Bruce Rioja wrote:You and me both.William the White wrote:I love all alcohol - even the tastes-a-bit-like-gin-and-paraffin of Sudanese date arak.

But the one I really wouldn't want to do without is red wine... All those meals that demand a glass of red would be so disappointing...

Re: The Christmas thread
I'm afraid I'm with the General on this one. I love wine, all colours, to add enjoyment to a meal or simply to enjoy by itself, but there are few occasions when I really need a glass of wine. Sometimes I really need a beer after exercise or simply dealing with really hot temperatures. Occasionally if in pain I need something stronger and settle for scotch or, for preference, Calvados. It seems to numb the pain.General Mannerheim wrote:When I get to the bar after a long hard week, or after playing five-a-side or squash, or after a big bike ride, it's not red wine I'm craving, its BEER - and those are always my favourite drinks.Bruce Rioja wrote:You and me both.William the White wrote:I love all alcohol - even the tastes-a-bit-like-gin-and-paraffin of Sudanese date arak.

Re: The Christmas thread
My do tonight and I'm really not sure what to make of it. We're going to some place in Warton called Fort San Antone. Apparently its a Western themed bar with line dancing and a huge grill. Still, the bar prices are more than reasonable.

Re: The Christmas thread
Only yesterday I was congratulating myself on having survived to the 12th of December without hearing Noddy Holder's Christmas song.
Last night the local Round Table came past ours dragging a, rankly rather poor, tableau with a Santa on it and that song was belting out.
Then today I caught a little off the radio. I managed to divert my attention to window cleaning and so pushed on & past it.
Not bad though.
Now, don't get me wrong though. I generally have time for the force of nature that is Noddy Holder. He was very much 'of my time' but that fckg song has ruled the roost for about 40 years now & frankly it should be put to bed, once & for all.
