Well I got in, and it was ace.

Im obvs no expert in theatre so wouldn’t know what constitutes a good play, but i know i enjoyed it and I am a bit of a American Psycho nerd too.

I think if I’d have posted last night id have been more gushing about it, but having slept on it im gonna be more rational. Smith is great but doesn’t quite have the cold, psychotic edge of Bateman, and the play itself is more comedic than macabre, which is not necessarily a bad thing. And it definately follows the movie rather than the book but there was some classic dialogue missing which was a shame. The violence is toned down too, which was a given tbf. I had heard some previews of the score and was worried i wasn’t going to like it but it really worked well on stage, id have preferred a few more familiar tracks from the book/film to be involved, but the ones they did use were great. I loved the scene where Bateman and Paul Owen are dancing to Huey Lewis and the News before Bateman hacks him to death with an axe! A lady in front jumped out of her skin at this part, which made me think she probably didnt know the story? Then I wondered who else in there didnt know it, and what I would think of the play of I didnt either - then concluded id probably still think it was ace!

That sounds really interesting. Preferred the film to the book, which is unusual. The film was more light-hearted, some of the book is tortuous both to read and in subject matter.
Although having said that, the girl I watched it with ran out of the cinema screaming during the chainsaw/stairwell scene. She was a bit odd though.

Garage in Highbury to watch Jamie Lenman from Reuben do tour his new solo double album. One half heavy, one half soft. Can't wait!

Octagon to see Justin Moorhouse. Saw him at Burnley Mechanics a bit back and he was surprisingly good. Looking forward to it.

Saw the Commitments in the west end. It was terrific, but I couldn't decide for sure if the cast were playing their own instruments or not? I concluded I thought they were, but with the help of a backing track? Was still good, liked the sets and the vocals were impressive. In a little twist, after the band get back together at the end of the play, they come and play a show in London so the last 20 mins or so is more like being at a gig! Just an good fun night out.

Went to Aircraft Circus last night to watch my friend in her end-of-course show after training. Fecking amazing! Was watching on like a proud big brother!

Then watched the professionals show, entitled Damaged Goods, which was also fun. As an addition, it appears the circus has got a hell of a lot sexier since i last went.

Haha. Whatever you do, don't order a pasta dish. There's a reason why they serve it with a spoon and it isn't for authenticity. They must boil it for as long as our Mum boils the veg.

Just spent the most fabulous afternoon with my daughter and two of the grand kiddies at the Opera House in Manchester. Dick Whittington, a good old pantomime! Went to loads of these back in the day but not been for 20 years or so. Loved it! And lots of smutty innuendo for the adults in the audience.
