There was a loan window from September til November sometime. I thought there was an emergency loan window that started shortly after that and has since ended. I might be wrong about that last one. But in any case at least one window has shut since this thread started.

Palace have released Kevin Phillips. Get him signed until the end of the season Dougie!

Mcnaughton played for Cardiff yesterday but only due to injuries so hope isn't lost yet.

Edit..

Regarding Phillips, Pulis has said
Palace boss Tony Pulis added: "He is a fantastic professional and there is no way I would stand in the way of what he wants to do.
Obviously already has plans to go back to a former club to finish his playing days. Wolves being the obvious guess.

Quite like Phillips, just scores goals for whoever he plays for, his luck will inevitably run out when he turns up on the cursed ground that is the Bok.

Genuine question here, should we sign anyone in January other than utter cheapos? And by that I mean loans where we are hardly paying anything?

I mean we aren't going up. So thats that.

Are we in danger of going down this season? It isn't impossible, it may even be very possible, but I'd like to think that we've enough to survive (ok it won't be pretty) against the likes of Doncaster and Yeovil and then slash the wage bill in the summer and see where we are?

I can't see anyone at the club thinking we have zero chance of going up. That is the ultimate goal and the club won't give up on that. 9 points isn't impossible to make up in the second half of the season. Did we not do similar last season?

On current form it is very unlikely but the club won't give up and will do their best to bring players in I would have thought.

Personally the way I read what is happening, is that short term results and promotion etc are being pushed to one side to implement a longer term plan. But I think in the short term the main objective is to stop the bleed of cash that will lead to FFP penalty next season. I think the club hedged its bets in the summer and brought in SOME players required but not all.

I will be very surprised now, if the club from the top level do anything this window beyond the absolute minimum unless we can sell some players for decent fees.

We need to look into bringing Craig Dawson back, it has to be the first thing we do in the transfer window because if we don't improve our back 4 IMO we will be relegated.

Some players required? That's just rubbish. We are near the relegation places. Looks to me like the manager is crap and wasted the money he was given.

Clearly Freedman wanted to sign further players. Whether he expected to or not who knows?

I don't think anyone can say that what we started with had everything we needed, it clearly didn't. Whether that is because we signed the wrong players or more were promised to the manager that didn't materialise right now I guess doesn't matter so much.

Point is we didn't go "balls out" for promotion by spending loads. We were cautious whilst not totally restrictive. So I'd say we hedged our bets.

The same crap as before your sabbatical.

Are there any managers anywhere who never want to add or replace players?

I think that club did back him by allowing him to bring in so many players, I certainly think that we should be doing a damn site better than what we are. Only one person can be blamed for that, and he ain't up to it.

Net result of summer though is a squad that is still down on Dawson from last season, where over the period it wasn't good enough for a top 6 finish.

Personally I'm still undecided whether we have a lot who are truly underperforming or a lot who just want to be away on big contracts who aren't as good as the money we paid them.

Perhaps it is all too big a job for a young manager finding his way. But again I personally do not believe sacking the manager will be the magic solution people hope and in some cases think it will. I'm not after a fight.

I do wonder in January what the club will do.

Dawson was a loan player, you don't dream and make your own team on players who aren't your own. One player doesn't make a team.

The manager has to work with what he has got, he isn't doing it, that is the bottom line.

No point dreaming about what is to come, who knows? Probably more great big piles on w*nk under this chancer.

I have done some research and found a list of premiership and championship players out of contract in the summer , most of these names will be on the market for obvious reasons in January and therefore there are some real gems to be had. You will also see many more Bolton names then you may think on there. Holden, Mortiz and Knight(thank f**k) just to name 3. Feeney is also on the market. But the player I think we should really take a look at is Northern Ireland captain Aaron Hughes, he is comfortable on the right and in the centre of defence, he is captain material and has more premiership experience then any of our current squad.

List below for premiership and championship players out of contract in the summer.
