Being from Horwich I will always see Wigan as the real local derby rather than Burt but the rest of you would certainly love to turn up at Gigg(les) Lane.Lord Kangana wrote:Local derby at Bury!

hang on.... a few days ago you said that Tony Pulis, Martin O'Neill and Mick McCarthy would be your top 3 candidates!

Re: Freedman out!
It wasn't a few days ago, it was when O'Neill and Pulis were both out of work. When they were, Allardyce's position was safe so I ruled him out but as that has changed due to West Ham's poor form, he's now a reasonably realistic candidate.thebish wrote:SmokinFrazier wrote:I'd be happy to wait if Allardyce was going to get sacked in a few weeks and he'd be the one to replace Freedman. it'd be nice to think that BigSam is a reasonably realistic candidate - but I really don't think there's a cat in Swindon's chance of him coming back. do you, seriously?

Can't see it. Think Gartside would have to go, and don't see that happening.

Re: Freedman out!
We can't afford Allardyce. He left here because even after spending over 10M the summer before and breaking our record on Anelka we couldn't afford to support his 'ambitions'.
So given he has probably made a fortune from jobs at Newcastle and West Ham in the meantime why on earth would he come back here for a tenth of the salary he was on (supposedly the 13th highest paid manager in Europe), with no money to spend, a wage bill that effectively needs to be more than halved and few if any saleable assets to build on and the likelihood of a fair play penalty next season?
No chance he will come back. See Gartsides statement about 'understanding what we are'. We are fishing in the same pools as Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday now.

Having just seen the latest financial results, do you not see how the likes of Pulis, O'Neill and Allardyce are probably out of our reach, both in matching their ambition in the transfer market and paying their wages!?SmokinFrazier wrote:It wasn't a few days ago, it was when O'Neill and Pulis were both out of work. It cost us £2.3 million to get rid of Coyle and his backroom staff and bring in Freedman, who arguably was a cheapish option. There is definitely a debate to be had about whether or not to replace Freedman now, but let's be realistic about who we could and would get in!

Re: Freedman out!
Really, don't waste your wishes.
Last time we hired Allardyce he jumped up a division to a club he loved which still had much more potential than the one he was at. Yes, we'd had to sell Frandsen but remember that we had a Premier League squad - and here I'm talking about players like Eidur rather than Eagles - hugely underachieving under Todd. Had he managed to overcome Barry Knight in the play-offs, we wouldn't have had a fraction of the subsequent belt-tightening. Does Sam seem like he fancies a tight belt?
I wouldn't be astonished to see Gartside leave, because it can't be much fun any more and let's face it he'd still get tickets to watch the club he undoubtedly loves. But even so I would be utterly gobsmacked to see Sam come within a mile of this financial f*cktastrophe. He's got a couple of tier-two promotions and no top-flight relegation on his CV: there will be a dozen better options for him within any given season.

I loved what Allardyce did for us during his tenure but I just can't see it ending well if he takes over now. Besides he'd almost certainly want cash. I wouldn't be against Dougie leaving as he just doesn't seem to inspire the players any more, but I don't want us to fire him and add to our fast-skyrocketing debt unless we have a nailed on, quality (relative to our current position/league) replacement.

It's alright doing "whatever it takes to get a 1-0 win", but I don't fancy watching that shit again, thanks.

My dad worked on that extension.Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, his Mrs refuses to move from their pad on Grange Park, which has recently been extended to the size of Yorkshire, so you never know!BWFC_Insane wrote:why on earth would he come back here for a tenth of the salary he was on
Anyway, I don't think BSA should come back. It wasn't very good towards the end, whether that was because he was on a work to rule to annoy Gartside or not is debateable but the last 18months were turgid at best.
I think he still has half an eye on the England job when Mr Roy gets the boot in July. He wouldn't get that as manager of Bolton in the same way players hwo play for Bolton don't get picked to play.
While I wish Lucky Dougie hadn't come he's here now and I don't see how we can sack him. We cannot become one of 'those' clubs that changes its manager every five minutes.
That gives the new manager a whole load of excuses as he tries to build his own team, reduce the wage bill etc etc.
Come on Dougie you bell end. SORT IT OUT.
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

well if we rely on dougies self belief and spiel I'm not sure why we aren't runaway leaders

Another thing. I've seen the cost of flirting Dougie as being around £2.5 million.
He has 18 months on his contract. That's 78 weeks. So is Dougie seriously earning £30,000 a week(ish).
I fvckin' doubt it!
And before you say "that includes all of his backroom staff". Keep them!! If they want to follow him out of the door and cancel their contracts, let them!
