Half decent sides waltz over our 5 man midfield. Do we may aswell give ourselves a better chance of sticking the ball in the net. The midfield was no worse as a 4 than it usually is as a 5BWFC_Insane wrote:Well that was a nice win. Could do with a cup run to inspire confidence and bring some excitement.
NGog played well, very well. Medo played well. Lonergan made some great saves. Blackpool are a very poor side but we still made them look like world beaters at times.
Don't like the system. They completely overran the midfield second half until Pratley and Vela came on.
Eagle was a passenger. Moritz was equally ineffective. Beckford scored and did nothing else.
I can see why we play 4-5-1. A half decent side would waltz through us otherwise.
But the win was very welcome. Hopefully a good draw tomorrow.

That was a very nice first half, where we were so dominant it was ludicrous we went in level. 4-4-2 formation worked very well, with Medo in a star role in his best performance so far. Things switched in the second half when Blackpool started to close us down higher up the pitch, and the switch of Ince to the right wing showed up Ream's limitations as a full back definitively (as Dyer at Leicester had shown up Baptiste's).
That said we still attacked pretty well and had two or three breakaway chances. Going 4-5-1 and defending deeper allowed them to dominate the last part of the game, and we depended on some truly outstanding saves from lonergan - which got us thru to the 4th round and will keep Bogdan on the bench for the forseeable future.
The first half was as good on the eye as we've seen all season. I'm happy. Drinking a glass of Prosecco and contemplating pasta in a little while.

Fair point. If you play 2 up though you can't carry Moritz for me. Nor Mark Davies centrally really. That is the problem.boltonboris wrote:Half decent sides waltz over our 5 man midfield. It suited Ngog and Beckford more though that is for sure.
As for the ovation for Eagles people round me stood up and cheered he was being taken off. I thought he was poor personally. Better than Moritz though.

We won, I am thoroughly looking foreword to the next round draw. Going back to what Bruce and a few others were saying, I can safely say that my generation does not get halve as excited about the F.A cup as my parents generation did. I had to tell most of my mates about when the F.A cup 3rd round was the day before it actually happened as they hadn't a clue. Even people of my age who support the likes of Reading seem to takes more interest in the champions league then the F.A and league cup. It very sad really but I can safely say that the F.A cup 3rd round draw is for me one of the most exciting events of the year never mind the football calendar.

Isn't that his honest opinion?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It was an absolute joy to watch and a formation that we should be employing reularly. Actually hope not to see Spearing start against Forest.bobo the clown wrote:Ah ... now that IS a proper formation.TKIZ! wrote:BBC Radio Manc saying that it's more like 433
Either way better from the Wanderers at home

I thought he looked good as well as his goal. Not what you would call an all-action display but that's not his style. He had a a couple of nice touches and lay-offs and the Blackpool CHs struggled to cope with them as a pair, not just Ngog, who was very good. Sort of performance that makes me want to pat him on the back then slap him about the head for producing it so rarely.William the White wrote:He was better than the mad one says, the bish... I cant remember what manager it was under but for a few games our fans kept chanting 4-4-2 4-4-2. Can anyone remind me?

What evidence? The only stat they seem to have beaten us on is the number of corners they won.LeverEnd wrote:Paul Ince: "On that evidence. we were by far the better side and should be in the hat for the next round."

Not sure. By way of disclaimer though, I did get it off Twitter so he might not have said it! His status as a total cock will be largely unaffected either way.Beefheart wrote:What evidence?
