What are you watching tonight?

LF are sending me - Father Ted - Series 3.

Yes, I know it was made in 1997 and no, I haven't seen any of it. OK? :)

English-accented badguy! They should have stopped at this point.
Watched 2 Die Hard ripoffs recently, White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen. The latter wasn't too bad for a cliche-ridden actioner but the former really was utter shite.

No, thought it was rubbish, tried to cram too much in. I'm all for far-fetched action, but they have to keep it simple.

Went to cineworld today for Saving Mr Banks.

A lovely film. Intelligent and a touch sentimental. Nicely constructed script. But best for the acting which was close to immaculate.

No car chases. Or shootings.

Or subtitles.

I've only seen one of them. The one with the Korean terrorists. The main guy is the bloke from the latest Bourne (I think) and Thor films.

I thought it was great!!

William the White wrote:First series of Breaking Bad now watched.

Character development bordering on the non-believable, but dramatic surprise high.

So far - and I'm told the best is yet to come - the writing is nowhere near as assured as The Wire or The Sopranos. I'm also told that the reason the first series comes to such a strange abrupt end is that it ran up against the Screenwriters Guild strike.

Still gripping TV though. All the elements are there - just not yet quite working together.
I liked BB, but it fell some distance short of those two for me.

Was she crying because she loved it, hated it, missed her father or because she hated cartoons?

That's Olympus Has Fallen, cheesey but enjoyable. Main man was Gerard Butler, Bourne guy is Jeremy Renner.

Well I've never got over Dick van Dyke in the original film. If it had been my novel I'd have cried at him.

But 'Saving...' is a good film.

I got the impression she was a touch mad and had no sense of what Disney was achieving. Anyone who writes something and signs away the rights is due to be upset. Maybe that was a lesson JKRowling learnt well.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Yes if you can ignore the yank flag-waving cheesey bits. Very formulaic but does a decent job. I'm not going to buy it and watch it again mind.
You should see the other one, it's terrible.

It made me want to throw stuff at the screen. Biggest pile of absolute shite that I've seen since Poseidon - and that puts it in my top (or bottom) three. If you manage to ignore the formulaic, yank flag-waving cheese then what are you left with? :conf:

Honestly, I was annoyed with myself for having gone to see it. Chinned myself when I got outside, I did. :)

For her father in my mind. What did you think?
