Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Forest match thread
Despite having a lovely time yesterday can I just vent my spleen at something that annoyed the feck out of me yesterday and has just come back to me?
Half time draw. The numb c*nt doing it starts up a big announcement for a former Wanderer who played for us from 1984 to 1992. "Ooh who's this going to be?" I wonder - and to general bafflement and silence he says "Mark Cook". Folk near me were thinking perhaps he's a former board member or played for some supporters team. A few seconds later "Oh, sorry - Mark Came"
That guy put his self on the line for our club several times and was worthy of a lot more respect than that

Re: Forest match thread
Yip, that really wound me up too. If he has no idea who Came is (WTF?) then the very least he could do is read his feckin cue card properly. Idiot.
... of course I may just be talking bo11ocks
Re: Forest match thread
Bring back McGreavy at least I could understand him and he knew the players, present and former.
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion

Really? I mean I wasn't sure about Mark Davies at times in the premiership, but as time went by he really started to look the part.Worthy4England wrote:Given a bit of a run,, he MIGHT make an average Championship midfielder...
Last season as he got over one injury and got back into the side things started to click, then he got injured again.
But I'd say he is the player most key to making us tick. I like him and think as it stands he is by far our "best player".
He's not back to his best yet but it was so nice to have a midfield player who wanted the ball on Saturday.

Right then, let's try 4-3-3...BWFC_Insane wrote:We looked totally anonymous up front all game

Glad the vibes were positive at the ground and that we appear to be going in the right direction. COYW.
One other thing: for their goal, Mills decides to come to the ball, which is debatable but OK if the runner is covered by the tracking midfielder... which he isn't, so he scores. Was that Spearing?

Tough job in a midfield 4 though. Spearing was having to press the ball and win it as well as offer protection. I'm more concerned with how the centre halves parted really. Seems like Spearing got caught out for pace on the break....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Ta.LeverEnd wrote:Spearing was right behind him yes.

No. Watch it again. He's with his man all the way to the D, at which point Mills comes out and Jay just... stops.BWFC_Insane wrote:Tough job in a midfield 4 though. I appreciate that it's harder playing in a 4 than a 5 - I've said it myself re BW, and I've done it myself at a much lower level - but I also know that the most important function of two central midfielders in a 4-4-2 should be to protect their defence. I'm not a Jay-hater but on that occasion he tries, then stops trying, just when he needs not to because Mills has come to the ball.

Re: Forest match thread
I'm surprised Knight hasn't received more criticism fir his part in their goal. He was sat far too deep which created an opening for them. Hopefully Wheater will get a chance alongside Mills soon because Knight makes far too many costly mistakes.
Re: Forest match thread
He was covering Halford's run the way I saw it. He may be error prone but I thought he was blameless there. Spearing let his runner go, Mills and Ream are both drawn to the ball leaving space for the guy to go into. Poor from a defensive midfielder that.SmokinFrazier wrote:I'm surprised Knight hasn't received more criticism fir his part in their goal. He was sat far too deep which created an opening for them. This. If criticism comes Knight's way it is not for his starting position but for not reacting quickly enough once the ball is played through to Paterson.LeverEnd wrote:He was covering Halford's run the way I saw it. Two defenders drawn to the ball like that is poor.
I still don't see Spearing "give up" though. I just see him either out thought or out run....but in any case Spearing should have done better but Mills and Ream both contributed massively there IMO.
Re: Forest match thread
He just seems to stop running and leave it to someone else. I'n questioning his judgement really, not his desire.

I'm also surprised Knight hasn't received more criticism
I mean, something has to be his fault
Didn't he once smile at an opponent?

Re: Forest match thread
I'm not sure, mate. Had Knight kept the line and moved up the pitch with Mills, he'd have removed the threat Halford posed by making him offside. He also would have been in a better position to intercept the pass to Paterson or at least been in a position to tackle him, but by allowing that gap to open, Paterson was able to walk through our defence and it kept Halford in play.LeverEnd wrote:He was covering Halford's run the way I saw it. A top defender like Kompany or Mertesacker would have moved forward with Mills. Staying back served no purpose and it's an even bigger mistake for someone as slow as Knight to make.

Aye playing a high line is particularly effective against midfield runners like Paterson.....errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrPrufrock wrote:yeah, the well known 'charge defence'. Just like the mobile Mertesacker would have.

Re: Forest match thread
Knight got miles nearer stopping the goal from the position he took up than he would've done if he'd been level with Mills
If we're just looking for folk to blame, let's drag Lonergan in - from the moment the pass is played, Patterson covers 18 yards while Lonergan covers 8
