So I could not pay it even if I think I am 'guilty', nervmind not agreeing!LeverEnd wrote:It's effectively an invoice. If you don't agree with it don't pay it. They then have to try to recover it from you, which in practice they will never do. You might get 2-3 legal letters aimed at scaring you. Just bin them.Athers wrote:Perhaps 'scammer' is a bit much but I've heard of many stories of them issuing scattergun fines and taking advantage of people's propensity to just pay it and move on with their lives rather than successfully contest. Perhaps this is what jaffka refers to.Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh? Don't know about these. How do they operate?Athers wrote: I believe it is from one of those scammer private companies. In my own case I know I've been 'a bit sneaky' for years but there's no sign for 50 yards. I note a 1min 40 second gap between the last picture of my car and a picture of a sign they've put up online for me.

I dunno really
My other issue is that it's a company car so they would receive the scare letters.
Interestingly a Google suggests they could 'invoice' for any number they make up due to lax regulation!

Seek advice, as you are doing, but you can ignore a lot of these from private firms. We had one (for parking for 2hr 5mins on a 2hr limit, on a retail park nowhere near anywhere else) chasing us for about two years, it's moderately interesting to see how many different made-up letterheads they'll send you from pretend companies ("Ooh they've passed it on to the debt collectors!")
It's a bit of a worry but that's what they prey on - you'll get a "Oh just pay us 75% of it immediately and we'll let you off" one. If you can easily compartmentalise it then it's frequently skippable - but yeah, check the moneysavingexpert forums (and links therefrom) for better advice than mine.

Re: Parking near the Reebok
I have a habit of going into town 'for a couple' then having about 15 and picking my car up sometime the next evening. I've had NCP fines which I paid when they were £30. Then they put them up to £50 so I looked into whether I could refuse to pay such an extortionate amount. In the last couple of years I've had 2 more qhich I ignored and have had the usual bluff letters which just stop. Since then my mate has shacked up with a girl who works in their legal department, and she says they have never taken one person to court. They are quite worries that everyone will start ignoring them, hence the strongly worded letters. I think they put it up to cover the shortfall by fleecing the ones who do pay. This could be some granny who was 5 mins late back. Pretty sickening really, so I'm happy to rack them up and bin them.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Seek advice, as you are doing, but you can ignore a lot of these from private firms. Council ones are different, they are backed up by bye-laws and are legally enforceable (yellow lines etc) and are often for traffic flow/safety reasons.

Except the one I got last year. No lines and I was even in a marked parking bay with no notice anywhere near it..... but 40 yards away there was a 'residents only sign'. Council ticket ensued, which I paid off that same afternoon, but it still irks to this day.

I'm afraid £6 just leads me to seek alternatives! At all football grounds I go to.Worthy4England wrote:I pay six shiney new pounds to BWFC and park in the rather large car park we have. I don't get any letters.
I guess when I am turning up to pay for the main event it just bugs me that I'm charged like I'm parking in Covent Garden.. but that's football these days.

parking in Covent Garden for that amount of time would set you back a good deal more than sick squid!! (and you'd have to add in the congestion charge...)Athers wrote:I'm afraid £6 just leads me to seek alternatives! I prefer parking just off the left side of Chorley New, Bolton side of the BeehiveWorthy4England wrote:I pay six shiney new pounds to BWFC and park in the rather large car park we have. I don't get any letters.
Mainly cos the locals have all done their best to get their cars off the drives and on the road to prevent parking, so when you do manage to squeeze into a space it proper pisses them off
I don't get much other enjoyment, obvs

The petrol station at Tesco is a hidden gem. There's no restriction on parking there.
But don't tell anyone...

do you leave it parked at one of the pumps and pretend you're in the shop for a very long time?

Re: Parking near the Reebok
It is a great idea, there is always a space after a short while at one of the pumps.Andy Waller wrote:The petrol station at Tesco is a hidden gem. There's no restriction on parking there.
