I can think of worse things than Lennie Lawrence as a caretaker manager... Jimmy Philips as one, for instance...LeverEnd wrote:I agree, but at the same time it would be very interesting to see him in caretaker charge for a few games to see what he'd do and give an indication of how much influence he has. I want an experienced manager and some experienced defenders on loan, above all else...

Bristol City was top. It feels like to get promoted you have to spend £20m AND play shit football. Or try to have fun and get lucky with a group a la Burnley.
Now is the time for me to be playing a couple of the kids. Not XI of them, and not the ones who have no chance yet, but it can't be that not a single one is ready to play at that level around experienced players. If it is, f*ck them off now and stop paying their wages too. All I know is we absolutely will not get anywhere playing Knight and N'Gog. We miiight not be shit if we got the likes of Kellet and Clough in, who can't be so far away as to make it impossible?
As for dream scenario:
Lonnergan
---Baptiste--Mills---
-----Mavies--Medo
--Danns---Moritz---Eagles
--------Beckford----
McNaughton back. Tierney fit. And a shit load of subs.
Of the rest I'd keep Spearing, who I think is a good player, playing badly, who has also been made Captain despite only having one proper season of competitive football under his belt. There are very few others I'd keep.
Ream is a defender who hates defending. Knight and N'Gog are cowards. Lee has gone. Pratley is a good athlete with no footballing ability. Wheater has looked awful. Who have I missed? Baptiste looked good at CB for Blackpool, and it's the one position he hasn't played for us. I reckon it's in his contract! There was talk when he came about not liking it at CB.

I have been saying we should play Kellet for quite a while, not with you on Clough though he is not strong enough and he will get booted all over the place.

Re: Your dream scenario
The question of what should happen is clearly a vexed one.
Obviously, get rid of Freedman, then when the next chap also fails, get rid of him, and so on.
However, cancelling these contracts will be expensive, so I have an idea - give the new man a one week contract. If he wins, he gets another one week contract. If he loses, he's out - no expense, he's out of contact.
Genius, I'm sure you'll agree. And it rewards performance - winning managers are retained, losers are ditched with the minimum of fuss.
Also, as has been pointed out on here, it's important that the new man is a former Wanderer. Hence, I propose David Cross. Ex-Wanderers legend, currently working on scouting the opposition for Blackburn, so presumably will be cheap to poach, yet also understands tactics. Plus he had a fine beard, and his daughter plays cricket for England.
Win-win.

A small addendum to this ... take the proposed wage and bet it with Ladbrokes whenever we are less than odds on favourites. So we pay him out of the winnings and make a tidy profit too.Puskas wrote:The question of what should happen is clearly a vexed one.

If we lose, the bet gains nothing, but he's earning nothing anyway, so no risk.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
