Don't! I've been onboard with that one for a while, well pre Freedman any way.Il Pirate wrote:As I get slated for banging the Gary Neville drum, I'll put me sticks down. But would suggest now OGS has gone to Cardiff, a couple of different names than those suggested by my wife, who considers that Syd Little, H from Steps or Cheryl Baker could all do a better job than our current incumbent. How about Mike Phelan ? (I know, I know, another DMB). Keith Hill from Rochdale, (although he made a mess at Barnsley). Or thinking out loud..........What about an audacious and ludicrous aproach and gamble on Alan Hansen now he's leaving MOTD? He'd certainly sort our defence out, and may just fancy the smell of the boot room again. What's the worst that could happen? We could end up getting relegated and having a sheeite manager. Oh, yes we've done / got that already.
Make no bones about it we would be a starter club for Neville but he does strike me as a bloke who finds leaving jobs half done distastefull, he lives round here, shows no intention of fecking off for the 'glamour lifestyle' and TBH ex manc or whatever it makes no difference if he turned our club round. It wouldn't be long before his name was chanted from the terrace.

IF we are going to change IT HAS to be a manager who has a proper proven track-record at this level of football, or what is the point? We might as well gamble that Freedman who has at least shown the ability to build a team from scraps elsewhere can repeat that here. Certainly that would be more likely to be successful than plucking a pundit out and making them manager.
Maybe he is not rushing or waiting till the right type of offer comes along.
I suspect you have no idea at all and I'm gobsmacked at the vitriol you heaped on Coyle yet Duggie who is as bad or worse seems to get your backing under the disguise of finance!!!I suspect would be a hundred times worse than what we've got at the minute.

He's 50 bloody 8. I'd suggest he shouldn't be waiting much longer if that is what he's doing (which it isn't).Hoboh wrote:Know that for a fact do you?BWFC_Insane wrote:Yeah lets get someone who has never managed, has never shown an inclination to manage and I suspect would be a hundred times worse than what we've got at the minute.Il Pirate wrote:As I get slated for banging the Gary Neville drum, I'll put me sticks down. Well Neville is the next in a long line of "ohh but he talks well on Sky so surely will make a good manager".thebish wrote:i thought you were saying Gary Neville is 58, there... did a bit of a double-take!
Think Andy Gray (he nearly was Everton manager).
Neville could be a good manager, but in the same way as some random ex-footballer who is now selling insurance to old ladies COULD be.
It is just plucking out a name. Why not Adrian Childs? He watches enough football.
Too random.

thought he was actually getting his hands dirty in the england set up and the noises (unverifiable) coming out from there was that he was doing pretty well ? So not quite adrian childs level - tho I understand hyperbole helps make a pointBWFC_Insane wrote:Well Neville is the next in a long line of "ohh but he talks well on Sky so surely will make a good manager".thebish wrote:i thought you were saying Gary Neville is 58, there... did a bit of a double-take!

Aye he's coaching for England. Great. But that is entirely different to being a manager.StaffsTrotter wrote:thought he was actually getting his hands dirty in the england set up and the noises (unverifiable) coming out from there was that he was doing pretty well ? Phil Neal coached England. As did Sammy Lee.

Re: Freedman out!
You can also guarantee that GNev(TM) is getting paid about 4 x as much as we'd offer him.

Re: Freedman out!
Ooow; I touched some nerves there................
As I said re AH, I was thinking (not very intelligently), out loud. The Gary Neville shout is a serious one and I feel (hey, it's only my opinion on a football forum ffs!) one worth considering when we look at our current plight. He could only say 'no thanks'. But he could think, 'that's a bloody good club to start my managerial career, I'll say yes'.
Just look at the facts. We have made our worst start since 1903 I think it was
? We have just suffered our biggest defeat in 32 years, to a club who we should at least have parity with. As a club, since DF has been here, we have gone backwards. WE HAVE NOT PROGRESSED. We play dour unatractive football. We are in our lowest league position since the early eighties. It could easily get a lot worse before it gets better. We need a change. Be it manager, chairman, direction, or preferably all three. We need a change quickly. I think my wife maybe right, H from Steps would be a refreshing change from what we've got. Probably play with a lot more panache.

Re: Freedman out!
Well ... if you'd proposed H from Steps rather than Gary Neville you may have got a bit more support !!

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Neville talks on sky like an ex player. Not like a manager.

Re: Freedman out!
I'm not sure appointing Ian Watkins as our manager would go down too well with some of our more challenged-between-the-ears fans.

Personally, I'd be looking at Mark Robbins - great job at Huddersfield with little money and I bet he isn't getting a fortune over there.

Re: Freedman out!
See that's the problem with Bolton fans these days. LGM comes with an exotic East European pun and everyone gets all excited. HG comes with his own lower league pun and gets jumped all over. I blame YouTube.

Just hope we don't appoint a paediatrcian to the academy medical team. Pitchforks'll be out and not for Dougie.Prufrock wrote:I'm not sure appointing Ian Watkins as our manager would go down too well with some of our more challenged-between-the-ears fans.
