What will you do in 2014 to help children beat cancer?

Your eyes are only open if you do your research. If you'd done your research on PPI your eyes would have been open.
I think you are being duped in both cases. You keep making out that this is a business which happens to give its profits to charity. Firstly that 100% isn't the case. It's a charity registered as such and with all the incumbent tax breaks that brings.
Secondly, that isn't how it is presented. When someone asks you to sponsor them to do a shark dive for charity they very much are not saying 'pay for my shark dive - any profits are going to charity' but 'give money to charity'.
5%. Five. That should be made clear.

It's not my fault if you cannot ascertain the difference between circumstances here. You honestly thing people get duped here? One's willingly making a payment - the other isn't. Tell me this - under what set of circumstances might someone carry out due dilligence on something that they don't even know exists?Prufrock wrote:Your eyes are only open if you do your research. No - I haven't once claimed that this is a business which happens to give it's profits to charity. I said the way that it operates is similar to one that might by way of it having a product to sell rather than simply sticking its hand out.Prufrock wrote:I think you are being duped in both cases. When people come along asking me if I'd like to sponsor them for effectively going shark diving or whatever in the name of charity then personally my answer is generally 'no'. That's because that's my personal choice. However, what I don't do is denigrate them for doing it or criticise the amount that they raise for a good cause when set against the overhead.Prufrock wrote:Secondly, that isn't how it is presented. No one is denigrating anybody.
All anyone has suggested is that when promoting this stuff it should be made clear that only 5% is going on charitable activities. That way people can make that informed decision for themselves.

It's just been pointed out what the amount going to charity was against the overhead. Folks can make their own minds up whether they think it's appropriate or not. Where's the denigration or criticism?Bruce Rioja wrote:However, what I don't do is denigrate them for doing it or criticise the amount that they raise for a good cause when set against the overhead.

Yes - that's entirely my point and has been all along.Worthy4England wrote:Folks can make their own minds up whether they think it's appropriate or not. Where's the denigration or criticism?

I don't think there has been any 'denigration'. That's a word a lot stronger than 'criticism'.
Folk have been bending over backwards to say they respect his motives and where he is coming from.
There has also been some, I think completely fair, criticism of his unwillingness to answer a straight question last time around, and criticism of the charity's way of operating.
Then of course Crayons has been denigrating away just now, but he's a loose cannon.

My thought exactly.Prufrock wrote:.... of course Crayons has been denigrating away just now, but he's a loose cannon.
What goes around comes around mummsie.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

So they're now in possession of a better understanding than they previously had as to whether they're being duped or not.Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes - that's entirely my point and has been all along.Worthy4England wrote:Folks can make their own minds up whether they think it's appropriate or not. Where's the denigration or criticism? However, according to Prufrock - they can't and they're all being duped into it ala PPI. Walking into it blindly, they are. Are you seriously suggesting to me that the guy that puts the posts up on here and his organisation haven't suffered desegregation or criticism? I mean - Really?
No harm done.
Bit like PPI being explained to you, instead of expecting you to read the thing you signed up for.

Love Golf?
Why not take part in KidsCan's Annual Golf Tournament!
Monday 9th June at DeVere Mottram Hall Hotel in Cheshire.
De Vere Mottram Hall Championship golf course is set in 270 acres of Cheshire’s finest parkland, located one mile from the picturesque village of Prestbury, and was the host venue for the 2013 European Senior’s PGA Championship. The 7,006 yard 18-hole, Par 72 Championship golf course comprising of magnificent parkland fairways dotted with oak and beech trees and tricky, well-guarded greens is broken up into two contrasting circuits of nine. The front nine, with its impressive back-drop of the 18 Century Hall, gently rolls over meadowland and offers the golfer many chances to make a score. The back nine winds through some lush woodland and is a much more demanding test of golf. Click here to take a closer look.
We start the day at 11:30am with hand-carved bacon rolls and fresh coffee, overlooking the golf course from the Thomas Suite.
Then, teams will head out for 18 holes of championship golf.
Awards will be given for the longest drive and nearest the pin.
Finally, after a challenging afternoon on the golf course, we’ll get a chance to relax and socialise in the sun as we enjoy a traditional hog roast prepared by Mottram Hall’s talented chefs.
We will round off the evening with presentations and a charity raffle.
