Doesn't have to be in the last 12 years LLS. My bank claimed that they'd destroyed all the documentation because the claim related to items up to 15 years old, and so weren't going to deal with the claim. They then miraculously found all the documentation when the Ombudsman threatened to simply charge them an estimate.

Yeh, I meant if it was within the last 12 years, I could without problem locate the paperwork. Twelve years ago we moved to where we live now, and hence I 'd just have to put in a claim to a bank without a/c no. etc etc, which seems to me to be a non-starter. Otherwise I'm going to have to do some box diving, which tbh is a Real Pain In The Backside.
Anyway, I'll give it a go... :)

Right. One simple rule. DO NOT GET ONE OF THE PPI RECLAIM COMPANIES INVOLVED. They will charge you around 20% of what you are owed for doing something that you do yourself quite easily.

Google the Consumer Action Group (CAG) website. Read. Learn. Then go for the bastards. I'm about £15k up already and still a bit more to come back. You'll be surprised how much your loans and credit card PPI payments mount up. Do it exactly as CAG advise. They've got templates for everything including a neat little letter that makes the Bank send you all the documentation and statements that you need. Don't cut any corners. Do it as CAG advise.

And don't feel guilty about it. It's your money. (It's ok to feel a bit silly for signing up to PPI in the first place. Only a bit though!)

Thank me later.

I did it for my Dad. Same thing, 9.5k total including more interest than premiums. They tried to fob me off with part payments but I got every penny I asked for by sticking to my guns. Just printed standard template letters off moneysavingexpert.com.

Clappers already has involved a PPI claim company, alas. Can he get out of it?

Not if he's signed up. Not the end of the world as most of them are competent and they will do all the legwork - but they will take their percentage.

This is what surprises me. After all the scandal in the late 80s/early 90s of Mortgage protection insurance not being worth the paper it was printed on, I just assumed everyone said "No" when they were asked if they wanted payment protection. I'm almost disappointed I did. I could just do with £12k

My thought exactly.

I'm half wondering if I ever did, but I know my stock reply was always 'no'.

I think the key to this is that it was bolted on without folk being asked - because I certainly said 'no' whenever I was.

I wasn't buying financial products in the 80's/early 90's. And I didn't know what Mortgage Protection Insurance is. I can guess. Though, with the experience I have of banks, blaming customers is the last thing on my mind.

Oh... looks an interesting place for that money. What would be a fair price?

How much land comes with it?

Looks a fair price from a London perspective, seeing as my three/ four bedroom end of terrace is currently worth about £380,000.

There is no price that would standard iceing amongst that rabble. None at all.

More fairly, it is on the edge of no-where. "5 miles from Machynlleth" and 25 miles from Aberystwyth is possibly the definition of that. I suppose it depends if that's a positive. Thougy quiet and seclusion sounds attractive you should try it for a while. The interior looks well done and to a high standard. On paper a nice 'second home' but having to travel 4-6 hours to your second home would soon pale. .... and second-homers round there aren't exactly welcomed.

So, being less flippant ... maybe 15-20% above the rate, if you're sure that's where you'd want to be.

My day off work started with my son having a 45 minute melt down because I gave him the wrong cup for his breakfast milk. Clearly I am a rubbish mum. It's going to be a very long day. :(

A sure sign of the times when one of the smartest pubs left in Bolton is........The Griffin. Not seen the inside of it for a fair old while, I'll readily admit, but outside it's had a real face-lift. Once Bolton's equivalent of Tombstone's Last Chance Saloon, seems the old spitoonery's gone modernised.

Some old geezer tried chatting my Mum up as she walked past recently, invited her in for a drink. Would need more than a facelift to get her in there!
