You MUST have been taken up a back passage in your time !!

There is a path that runs between Whitehill Lane and Kermoor Avenue in Sharples, Bolton. It is not, and I can assure you of this, known as 'The Twitten'.Gooner Girl wrote:That, what Harry posted, is a twitten Bruce.

My mate's Dad's nickname for Sally Gunnell was 'Smelly Ginnel'*, I always think of her when I hear the word. (and I kind of brought it back to an athletics topic too, which is quite neat.)
* his alternative version was 'Sweaty Funnel', but that's not relevant

I don't know if this is true but 'apparently' Pippa Funnel's name caused much hilarity in the Athens Olympic games as 'Pippa' is slang for 'blow job' in Greece.

Re: The athletics/running thread
So I've foolishly decided to run a marathon on 8 weeks training. I had my gait tested last year and I'm a neutral runner and got recommended the Asics nimbus 13. They're a bit worn out now and looking for similar pair in the same series, any recommendations of where the cheapest place to buy them is?
Also best tips on on how to lessen blisters would be helpful. I've never run this far before and on my last long run I got some bad ones. It's the first time that has happened. Is it just par for the course?

Okay. Neutral gait shoes. Stck to what you know. I got my latest gel cumulus (15) for less than £70 from startfitness online.
Buy some blister plaster from Boots. Get some decent running socks and keep your feet dry as much as possible.
What's your programme?

Re: The athletics/running thread
If you've got running experience and start sensibly you can get round on 8 weeks I expect. Good luck with it.Dr.Karl wrote:Cheers for those tips. I'll try them out.Gary the Enfield wrote: A marathon? On 8 weeks training?![]()

Erm I'm really following much of a programme. My general plan is I'm trying to get at least 60km a week done. So three during the week, between 10km and 16m. And then every weekend increasing my long run by a couple of kms. Culminating in a long run two weeks out of 30km. This weekend is a 24km.
I use the same website GtE mentioned and also sportsshoes.com, they sometimes have 10% off or free postage offers so search the voucher sites for those before you buy.
Which marathon?

Good luck Doc. I use anti chafe stick (got it off Amazon) on my toes and mi nads. The 1000 mile socks have really worked for me too - never had a blister in them.
Personally, I'd chuck the odd speed session into your training. On your shorter runs rather than just churn out say 6 miles - do 2 mile steady, 2 miles balls out hard effort and down to 2 miles steady cool down. It SHOULD make them last 6 miles on the day not quite as painful
