good game and win. created quite a lot of, not just good but clearcut chances. juke led the line really well. other shouts for bogdan, mills and wheater who made some really good interventions at critical times.Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, I wasn't expecting that. The two up top worked tirelessly and very well together to excellent effect. This is the first game this season as far as I can remember in which we played consistently and steadily for the full 90minutes. Too many times this season we've started games well only to crumble after 20 minutes and descend into farce.
Was worried that if they got one then they'd get another soon after, but we actually managed to see a game out.
Just a couple of things though. Mason - I wish he'd try and stick his foot through it rather than try to dink the keeper on one-on-ones. Freedman - to say in your post match interview that you've wanted to play two up top all season but haven't at any point had two strikers available is yet another insult.
Read what you said BR and then listened to what DF said - tbf it wasnt 2 strikers, if I'm interpreting right he inferred it was having 2 of the right combo, which is a point. But its still spin & bollocks. I keep hearing people say he's stubborn and keep hearing him say he knows how to fix us. All I see is constant u turns and throws of the dice in the hope that something works. Its ironic that what now seems to be working for us, is a system (target man up front) he told us was crap (to summarise) and we would be educated to appreciate a more tiki taka style.

Great to get a win.
2 up front as well.
Onwards and upwards now.

Visited the Reebok for the first time as a neutral today, and thoroughly enjoyed the game and matchday experience as a whole. I wrote an account of the match on my blog, if anyone would care to read it

Was that the interview on GMR Brucey??Bruce Rioja wrote:Well, I wasn't expecting that. The two up top worked tirelessly and very well together to excellent effect. He sounded bloody obsessed with the clean sheet!! Took the wind right out of my sails. He kept harping on about it, wouldn't admit that two up front made sense.
Whoever was interviewing him kept trying to allude to the "two up front" but he put it down to the back four being solid and not to the strikers..
I still think he's a stubborn chancer.

To be fair, when I read the word "profligacy" in relation to a football match, I immediately pigeonholed him as a c*nt.

Easy now, what's the issue with "profligacy"?Andy Waller wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Thanks for taking the trouble to post that Alex and glad you enjoyed your visit to the Reebok.THTT wrote:Visited the Reebok for the first time as a neutral today, and thoroughly enjoyed the game and matchday experience as a whole. Seriously? It's a football match, nobody uses language like that unless they're pretending to be cleverererererer than they are.

Hah. I can see where you're coming from but it's not as if I was standing up in my seat yelling "For f-ck's sake Mason you daft c-nt, stop being so f-cking profligate!" - I just felt that "profligacy" just read better than "wastefulness".Andy Waller wrote:THTT wrote:Easy now, what's the issue with "profligacy"?Andy Waller wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Thanks for taking the trouble to post that Alex and glad you enjoyed your visit to the Reebok.THTT wrote:Visited the Reebok for the first time as a neutral today, and thoroughly enjoyed the game and matchday experience as a whole. Can't argue with the result today, well done lads. I'd still prefer to see proper wingers in the future, though.
Re: Stung bu Hornets - Watford (H) 22/2/14
Wtw 100% correct other than being harsh on Lee who tried to do clever things in his cameo . None came off, but abysmal is too harsh. Mason best player on the pitch by far, despite missing four golden chances. 2 up top were both fab, but they weren't the 'two' folk have been claiming for. Mason came deep, ran channels, Juke gave width, they were both dynamic. Equally the call for wingers is only made by cretins. That shape only suits the narrow 4 we played. As in our genuinely good spell, was a 1-2-1,which suits our best/only footballer mavies. One thing I don't get is what on earth Pratley offers that the again excellent Danns doesn't. That aside 10/10 to team and manager (big shout to the for once excellent Spearing, and motm to one of Mason, Mavies, Juke, just, in that order).
Also, coz I slag him off, Boggers was 10/10 today.

Agree with this, though I think Lee was pretty dreadful. Should have buried that chance then nearly gave them a chance up the other end with a terribly lazy touch.Prufrock wrote:Wtw 100% correct other than being harsh on Lee who tried to do clever things in his cameo . Spearing was very good.
I'd edge Jutke above Mason because Jutke bullied Watford and laid the ground work for Mason to do his thing, but both were superb. The two strikers worked together. That is the crucial thing. Just banging two up front isn't the answer. Two that work and play together is, but it isn't trivial to find them. Seems like these two could be 'it'.

Re: Stung bu Hornets - Watford (H) 22/2/14
So that's ok then. Despite the fact it's only been one game we've apparently now found the perfect front two pairing. And neither of them are ours.
So best case scenario, we look good up top for the next 50 odd days, win a few and secure safety. Presumably with Beckford making the odd cameo appearance here and there.
Than what? Another record breaking season of shitness next year with only a pissed off Beckford up front on his own. Can't wait.

I'd like to claim a significant hand in our victory, by dint of the fact I didn't go and hardly followed it on mobile.
Good news is, I'll be back for the Dingles game.
Excellent to see 3 points for the boys and backing ourselves to try and score goals at home. Sounds like Spearing played more like last season's Spearing than this, which is long overdue. Blackpool still in freefall is a bonus.

Or maybe by people who have a clue ???Prufrock wrote:.... Equally the call for wingers is only made by cretins.
Has anyone ever suggested you have an unfortunate and unnecessarily confrontational way with you ?
I still think you should get back to the fags. How's that going, btw ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Well, would you prefer getting relegated? As a club we just have to get on with it.CrazyHorse wrote:So that's ok then. Despite the fact it's only been one game we've apparently now found the perfect front two pairing. And neither of them are ours.

I am very surprised at reading some of the posts on here after our win. Some people seem hell bent on confrontation.
Why when we are all happy with the win?

Because some people dont know how to enjoy the moment and seem hell bent on worrying about the future.jaffka wrote:I am very surprised at reading some of the posts on here after our win. Some people seem hell bent on confrontation.
