Really. I didn't discover anti chafe stick until after I did Coniston trail marathon. Red raw would not be an inaccurate descriptionGooner Girl wrote:Harry Genshaw wrote:Good luck Doc. I use anti chafe stick (got it off Amazon) on my toes and mi nads. The 1000 mile socks have really worked for me too - never had a blister in them.
Personally, I'd chuck the odd speed session into your training. On your shorter runs rather than just churn out say 6 miles - do 2 mile steady, 2 miles balls out hard effort and down to 2 miles steady cool down. It SHOULD make them last 6 miles on the day not quite as painfulReally?! Ouch!

I've tried running with boxers, trunks, cycling shorts and going commando under my running shorts, but with any long distance there was always some discomfort until I discovered the magic anti chafe stick

I do a lot of half marathons and find compression vests and shorts help to prevent loggers nipple and chafing. Vaseline works well on the groin and between the toes but I've only used them on the marathon.
Doc, try running with carbon gel too. Practice taking one every 30 to 40 minutes on your longuyen runs.

Perhaps you should both take up triple jump instead. I've never had any issues with chafeage!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Just been out for a leisurely trot with a mate round Rivington when we ran past a woman who was looking at us so I acknowledged her with a cheerful Hello. 'F*!KING COCK!!!!!', she screamed at me. A bit weird.

We found it very funny. Holcombe? Probably a Bury fan.Harry Genshaw wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Just been out for a leisurely trot with a mate round Rivington when we ran past a woman who was looking at us so I acknowledged her with a cheerful Hello. 'F*!KING COCK!!!!!', she screamed at me. A bit weird. Were you out long? Was running over there yesterday and went for a long walk there this afternoon. Mate of mine was running over Holcombe last weekend and saw a runner coming in the opposite direction. He nodded and said "Good morning". Got told to "feck off" in response! Some odd folk about
Was about 3:15 on the path by the llama field off Green lane. Just ran round Lever Park slowly, less than 40 mins and not very far.

Did about 3.5 miles tonight after a short but fast run on Tuesday with the Harriers Intermediates group. Got out of the habit of football training recently but going to go back again this week. I WILL get fit again! Feeling determined!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Hills session tonight followed by day 4 of my 30 day abs and squats challenge.
Now have a target to aim for, been asked to make up part of a Harriers team for the Sussex road relays in April. It's only a couple of miles each but that means I need to be fast.
Plus, I'm half deliberating over whether I enter the county champs for triple jump in May. Only 2 years left as a senior woman before I become a vet...
if I enter that I need to do some work on my leg strength...

Hey, hey, HEY! I've got another 2 years yet! (Well, 18 months...) and us women become one sooner then you men I believe - which is very unfair as we live far longer.Harry Genshaw wrote:Don't even go there! I was only looking at the golf clubs in the garage the other day -

Anyway, found this the other day. Another 7 years before I'm 40.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Two good run sessions this week.
Tuesday
2.5 mile warmup (8:30) pace down to East Barnet then 2 X 200m uphill sprints followed by 1 x 400m uphill sprint (jog return)
Then down to a park where we did 2 x 400m sprints (45 secs standing recovery) and 2 x 150m sprints (30 secs standing recovery)
Then round the corner to a hill approximately 1 mile long where we did a 30 second uphill sprint followed by a 30 second walk back down the hill. Repeated this until we reached the top of the hill.
1.5 mile jog back to the club finished the run.
Thursday
7.7 mile run out of Cockfosters around Barnet and Southgate. 7:45 mm pace with a 1.5 mile hill at the start and a 1 mile hill at the finish.
Feeling pleased with the effort.

Good stuff GtE. Will be doing parkrun tomorrow if I have to crawl round the fcuker. Bored of my own sicknote excuses. Then off shooting and drinking on a stag do. I think I'll miss the Trotters 5M at Smithills on Sunday with a massive hangover.Gary the Enfield wrote:Two good run sessions this week.

Sounds like a plan. Can't run at the club tomorrow so may just break my duck on one of the Southern Softy Park Runs near me.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Did you do a softy one GtE? Mine went better than expected, 19:58. Ribs nagged all the time but never painful enough to slow me down. Hills were a struggle after so long off though, nasty.
Will run agaun next week and see how much I can improve.
Trotters 5 race in Bolton today, I think harry was considering it.

Nah, I did a 5.5 mile run from my house round the local park and back. Easy weekend in all. 19:58's pretty good. Well done.

Decided to stick to my guns and stay off road for now. Went over the tops for a couple of hours. Absolutely loved it and no major concerns afterwards (had my popatil (sp?) stretched to buggery at physio yesterday - seemed to do the trick)
