We will never find out what would have happened over a longer period and it is true we didn't see enough of Holden to be sure it wasn't a one off magical season or whatever....but in what I saw of him I'd say he was far greater than a little above average....

Very harsh there Bob.

His athleticism, movement and link-up play was exceptional. In fact, maybe his naivety added to that play. I don't doubt he'd have progressed.

I wasn't alone on this board by saying that at the time, when he was flying, he could've comfortably walked into pretty much any team in the Prem

Yup. Opinions and arseholes and all that, but many thought he was absolute class. I remember saying at our peak under Coyle that we had three who were good enough for top 4 squads: Holden, Lee and Cahill. Two are f*cked and one went for (relative) peanuts

I think he was short of top 4 genuine quality, whatever that means, but I don't think he'd have gotten into the top 4 sides midfields. But after that....

For me for that brief spell he was the best box to box midfielder I've seen at Bolton, and there have been some good uns...

Nice guy and I wish we'd seen a lot more of him but the truth is, he'll be remembered for two things....Spending 90% of his contract out injured and for scoring that goal against Blackburn.

Holden was an excellent player. Had he stayed injury free, I think his level of ability would suit a club like Everton or Spurs right now. When you look at how players like Ramsey or Henderson have improved under a good manager, the fact Holden was so good under Coyle makes me think we never saw close to his true potential. What happened to him is a real shame.

I had a similar injury to Stu's original Evans one 3years ago'and I do believe that he would never have gotten back to the player he was.Admittedly I dont play sport for a living but I had a fantastic Surgeon who did a great job;I have had extensive physio'(but) that fear is always sat there in the back of my mind that its gonna go again.When I'm in Sainsburys I'm always checking to make sure no-ones gonna run into the back of me with a trolley.You are just not the same(in the head)as you were pre-injury. I wish him every success 'I just can't see him getting that now on the football field.

And if you have that fear in a supermarket.....imagine on a football field.

What is it like, is it painful or feel weak or is it simply the mental side of things?
