You'd have to count your fingers after you shook hands with them, but lovely people.

Anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes passing through an area would know that the British people, on the whole, are tolerant, hard-working, law abiding people. As, in fact, are most of the immigrants in our towns and cities.

What builds up the perception of a 'shithole' are people who don't bother to scratch the surface, preferring to make sweeping generalisations about whole communities having spent very little there and believing what the 'popular' press report as factual facty fact.

Then there are some places that appear fantastic to the casual observer but are, in fact, cesspits of bigotry, racism and general 'chavviness'. Horwich is one of them.
You had me right up to that final sentence. Now I feel forced to key your car.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'm still banned from the Saddle for the issue of the 'borrowed' glasses I think.

Well there's the 'New' David Wheater and the 'New' Zatiah Knight, not to mention Zorro, who seems to be doing a job.

Plus we've got plenty of kids for blooding.

You worry too much.

Meanwhile in non transfer news, the bbc is saying that Pratley is out injured for the rest of the season.

Aye, saw that and also that Beckford's fit and in contention. He wouldn't go straight in for me the way Mason and Lukas are working.

Some of the places I call sh*t I have spent about and hour in so I am with you there, but the places I hold the strongest view on have been built on several visits, I could not disagree with you more on Horwich but you knew that anyhow. But here is a thought as your saying that it is silly for people to form opinions on places how long do you think somebody needs to be in a place before they can have a fair opinion of the place? BTW I don't let the media reflect my opinion on places otherwise I would surely feel that the south east is the centre of everything great, where everything is perfect and where everything is perfect - which you know is a view I don't hold, in fact I think quite the opposite. If you honestly feel that way about Horwich, I ask what hope is therefore some of the sh*t areas of Bolton(which every person on this forum will admit exist), what about some of the other towns in the north west with higher crime rates, higher unemployment etc...

Y'know, I'm mid 50's. I've lived within 50 miles of Manchester all my life and I've had a car for 35 years ... & I can't say, specifically, that I've been to Wythenshawe. I've driven up past that way but actually INTO it I don't think I have.

Moss Side the same. I mean, I went to Maine Road a couple of times and I've driven up Princess Road a lot, but actually INTO Moss Side ? Nope.

For a kid who doesn't drive and has lived so far away from the area for much of your teen years I'm always amazed at just where you've been ... and been precisely enough, and for long enough to have formed an opinion. It's a never ending source of wonder.

Dan. It's utterly impossible to have any perspective about a town after spending one hour in it! You can live in a place for five years and not know it inside out, neven mind an hour. You're just coming across as silly by insisting places are shite from a flying visit. You go on about Horwich (which is fine as far as I know) yet left when you were ten to live down south. You can't judge places from a football fan perspective, you have to live in them to even pretend to know them.

As my freinds have said to me "Dan has been everywhere". Admittedly most of the places I visited were with my dad when I was a bit younger as my dad was a ground hopper and therefore has done the whole of the football league, the first 3 tiers of non league football, every race course(horse racing) in Britain and every cricket ground. Believe it or not me and me dad used to get on quite well, it's only been his actions since my mother has died that has changed all that. My sister is in te same boat in fact she used to adore my dad more than anyone in the world but in 2 years that has turned to hate(not an exaggeration).

I am thankful to my dad for taking me with him on also these trips and I know what the real world is like much more than most of my age, especially given the basic ignorance of people down this way who as we I have mentioned are so removed that they will; never be able to see how normal people live.

In the same way that you cannot give a view of a footballer until you have seen him play for 5 seasons?
