Ta Dan. It was a misunderstanding on her part. She had been here roughly a year, flew back to the states last month and then flew back today. She needed to stay in the state's for six months. Still, pretty gutted. Pub is my home tonight.

It created a great atmosphere, the old fashioned knees up round the piano, which is now sadly lacking. Apparently it was doing his hands and gut no good though! I didn't help by regularly requesting Children by Robert Miles, he does a remarkable version. Does weddings and restaurant work now.
If he saw me in there he'd play some Zappa without me even requesting it!
Haha! Seem to remember murdering Bobby Brown one night with my mate, vaguely. :oyea:
Keep meaning to listen to some more Zappa, what do you recommend for starters?
Depends really, as there are loads of different line ups he played with and there about 65 to choose from (not including post-humous releases). (All of which is on Spotify now).

But as a starter guide I’d go for:

We’re Only in it for the Money (Mothers of Invention Era)
Hot Rats
Just Another Band from LA (Flo and Eddie Era)
Anything from around ’74-’75 (he would sometimes release as many as 4 albums in a year) - Apostrophe, Overnite Sensation, One Size Fits All, Roxy & Elsewhere [my personal favourite of them all], Waka/Jawaka, The Grand Wazoo etc
Joe’s Garage
Sheikh Yerbouti (this has Bobby Brown on)
The Best Band You Never Heard in Your Life / Make a Jazz Noise Here (’88 band)
Civilization Phaze III (Synclavier era)
The Yellow Shark (classical)

Sense of entitlement. I could almost understand it if she was under 18. But legally she's now a grown up. How does this ever come to a court, without somone pointing this out to her, that Amazon are recruiting if she's a bit short for what she wants to do?

Isn't 21 their 'grown up age now? Even so, what does she expect this outcome to be other than 'get fecking real'

It's 18 most places in the US, but you still can't buy booze n gamble, until 21 (I think).

"Age of majority" will vary by state but 18 is old enough to look after yourself. What a spoilt bitch. The family are well rid till she comes to her senses.

I wonder how much comes from her lawyers encouragement ? She'll be suing them next.

There was a brief discussion on halal vs 'normal' slaughter methods a few weeks ago.

Today Richard Dawkins retweeted a video. It's grim as feck, so do not watch if you're even remotely squeamish, or if you want to avoid the whole issue but it's here: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=545_1345800806" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It shows the differences between 'stun slaughter' and halal slaughter. The first video shows a calm-ish cow get shot in the head with a bolt gun and instantly fall down. The rest of the video shows restrained cows have their throats cut and then flail about or gurn.

Now, on the one hand, I've heard of horror stories that say the 'stun method' is far from as sanitised as shown in that video - which I think was posted by somebody with the aim of showing halal to be barbaric. I also *think* that there are a number of different 'regulatory bodies' when it comes to certifying what is halal and so am not sure that is representative of the whole. Nevertheless, on that evidence it seems a compelling case that the idea that halal butchery causes the animal no pain or distress is patently bollocks.

About 5 minutes later I happen to see on the TVs at work David Cameron giving a speech in Israel saying he'll protect the Jewish equivalent ritual slaughter of shechita. Nick Clegg has recently said he disagrees with the Danes who have banned ritual slaughter.

Now, I've very little time for the PETA nutters, but I certainly value animal rights more than I value religious freedoms in scenarios like this.

Thoughts?

That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I lean to your side, Prufrock.
Australia transports live cattle to Indonesia in the hundreds of thousands. A year or so ago 'animal activists' either took or obtained video footage taken in some of Indonesia's abattoirs. It was sickening. I haven't followed your link as I can guess what it contains.

It seems that the export agreements state specifically that animals shall be 'stunned' before slaughter - which was obviously not happening. To the best of my knowledge that fits in with the requirements of 'Halal'. Well, the Indonesians were offended to the extreme. Live cattle imports from Australia were terminated. Then the kerfuffle started. Thousands upon thousands of cattle, all prime beef stock, were stuck in feed lots. What it cost the local industry I have no idea but I would expect it to have been in the hundreds of millions.

You know my views. I'll not bother repeating them.
On a related topic my local NHS now doesn't bother offering a halal meal in hospital, that's because all the fecking meat meals are now halal, so those of us who aren't Muslim/Jewish don't even get a choice when sick, it's halal or vegetarian. Out-fecking-hoboh-stylee-raged, me.
That's not a leopard!
