Our mindset was pure South Africa: Isandlwana, Rourke's Drift, Mafeking.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: He's often brought on a centre-back late in the game, I'm talking more about mindset and rapidity of transition from defence to attack.

So basically we have won 3 and drawn 1 of our last four matches against teams above us in the league, we have conceded a grand total of 1 goal in these games and scored 11. I would have taken this pattern all season long, however, everyone on here seems down that we got a 0-0 draw against 3rd in the league.
Maybe last night he had an eye on the home game on Saturday thinking a more attacking team with fresh players would be better at home. So I am hoping for a more attacking team on Saturday!

I'd have taken that pattern all season long too. If that pattern had been there all season long though it wouldn't have been against teams above us in the league because with that pattern there wouldn't have been any, but as that pattern hasn't been there all season long it's no wonder the last four matches were against opposition who were above us in the league, almost inevitable given our league position prior to this pattern springing forth.Norpig wrote:So basically we have won 3 and drawn 1 of our last four matches against teams above us in the league, we have conceded a grand total of 1 goal in these games and scored 11. I think the amount of gloom displayed (and you're really over-egging it with the "everyone on here" statement - you couldn't get more upbeat than Enoch even if you were World Upbeat Champion) on this occassion is more to do with the fact a winning formula (a pattern if you like) had been discovered only for it to be ditched for no apparently good reason.

the direct link to the download of the firefox/opera/chromeforks version of flash player is currently this:Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: I'm using Opera on my laptop. Never had an issue before with this set-up
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/flashpl ... plugin.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the IE version is here-
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/flashpl ... tive_x.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
the macos versions here-
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/pub/flashpl ... 12_osx.dmg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
'til they hide/change/obfuscate it again.
this messageboard has shortened the visible overlong URLs with dots (you can just make out theyre on adobe's website), so you might have to click it rather than copy/paste. but as of mid-march 2014 these download links work.. well the first one does.
download whichever ones you need , then run/install them..

Except it was a good reason. We were away, midweek, against third in the league. Let's not beat around the bush here, even Leicester fans would have said "well, it's alright" with a point here.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I'd have taken that pattern all season long too. Our manager changed things up to adapt to our opponents. There's nothing wrong with that, and the tactic worked.

I dont think the tactic did work, we got a point inspite of the tactics, and it was only due to some good defending from Knight and Reem and some crap play from Derbys forwards that we didnt concede a few. We got ripped to shreds, down our right flank all night long, again due to our tactic of playing Baptiste out of position, but it was a very good point which most of us would have taken before the game.
Just one other point... I have to commend the quality of stewarding, they were all friendly, helpful and tolerant, a far cry from the power crazed thugs we have to endure at the Reebok.

You can tell certain people are desperate for us to lose when playing with two strikers, so they can point out its not guaranteed to win every game. Last night's point was fine but there's no reason to suggest we'd not have got a point if we'd played a far more successful formation. We clearly play better and factually get better results with two strikers, and I'm not sure why so many seem to have an issue with that being pointed out.

I'm not sure how you could possibly imagine yourself into such a mindset.SmokinFrazier wrote:You can tell certain people are desperate for us to lose when playing with two strikers, so they can point out its not guaranteed to win every game.

If you are more interested into kidding yourself that you've scored a point on the interweb than you are with your team winning, then I imagine you might also be the sort of misguided individual who believes everyone else thinks exactly like you do.....Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I'm not sure how you could possibly imagine yourself into such a mindset.SmokinFrazier wrote:You can tell certain people are desperate for us to lose when playing with two strikers, so they can point out its not guaranteed to win every game.

I'd prefer honesty to hypocrisy.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

i think those types were first spotted during that game when 18 million pound man darren bent scored on his sunderland debut.SmokinFrazier wrote:You can tell certain people are desperate for us to lose when playing with two strikers
this isn't the same, this (not thinking the worlds ending after 'only' getting an away point after a few wins) is called pragmatism.

Don't understand how you could come to that conclusion, no 'supporter' should want their team to lose.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I'm not sure how you could possibly imagine yourself into such a mindset.SmokinFrazier wrote:You can tell certain people are desperate for us to lose when playing with two strikers, so they can point out its not guaranteed to win every game.
In the circumstances and especially if it is true Mason wasn't 100% fit then I believe Dougie got it right this time. Now on Saturday when we are playing at home, I would be furious if Dougie didn't choose to go back to a 442.
