Summary on the radio last night was saying how the door was taken off its hinges and policemen were just standing on it etc. as they were stomping around. Also that the fragments of door were never recovered. I remember the first investigating officer was an idiot as well. Incredible stuff from the SA police. If there's much more of this incompetence I presume it could get him cleared on technical grounds regardless of what the story looks like?

Police incompetence and lies, more than the race card, got O.J. Simpson off IMHO. DA didn't help with the glove.

I do find it curious when the jury hears something they shouldn't and the judge asks them to remove that from their thinking. But like a referee in front of a vociferous home crowd, they can't help it. Not sure there's a way around that though as you wouldn't re-do a whole trial for one slip!

Not fair to say because on a jury we'd be sat in court, day after day hearing every detail from every witness and every piece of evidence being scrutinised. Then we'd take our evidence packs away and debate our thoughts before reaching a verdict.

I think it is fair to say that some people would be shit on a jury but I reckon most people on here would actually be pretty good when compared against the average.

Personally I'd struggle to pay much attention beyond the first hour. The tediousness of the cross examinations would be too much for me.

Certainly not saying it is easy, but it is all about how your concentration compares to the average I guess......

Some bloke's wapped his podging piece out in front of a 15 year old girl on the bus to Little Hulton and she's reported the matter to the Police. Cctv images of him (having put it away) have been released and a bloke's been arrested. Thing is, the bloke that they've arrested, although admitting that it does look uncannily like him and to owning similar clothes, says that it's not him and that he's the victim of a mistaken identity. How on earth can the prosecution possibly prove otherwise?

I suppose ir would depend on the nature of the 'slip'. These slips are frequently deliberate. For sure "The jury will disregard that remark' is certain to make them think about it more. If the slip is more serious the 'slipper' could be found in contempt. If it seriously damages the accused's right to a fair trial, a mistrial could be called.

I've hit the stage of life where I don't do stuff I don't want to. Listening to a barrister trying to twist a single witnesses words for an entire day is not on my list of things to concentrate on.

Similarly a friend of a former colleague was a Rotarian and a few years ago it was his turn to play Santa through the sink estates of Accrington. A chip-eating youth approached the sleigh and asked Santa if he'd like a chip? To which he replied "Ho, ho, ho, yes, Santa wouldn't mind a chip" to which the youth responded "Well here, you can fecking well have them" before smashing Santa in the face with his bag of chips.
