Next week I am taking a cruise on the Royal Princess to Princess Cay, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I need to recover from my recent trip to Mexico. I found hanging around the Mayan Riviera a little strenuous for an old man.

I've had permission to book Japan for next spring
Cattle class is £548 from Manchester, a decent price imo, but just once, I want to walk on an aircraft and turn left. £1340 for business class if I can justify it to myself. First class is £5350 which I certainly can't!

Re: Summer Holidays
What if you do Business Class in one direction? My parents did that when going to New York, flew economy there and business class on the way back and I think it wasn't that much more expensive.Bijou Bob wrote:I've had permission to book Japan for next spring

Re: Summer Holidays
Depending on the airline I'd do business class at those prices. Check out the business offering as they vary massively in terms of what you get. Some airlines give you a chauffeur to and from the airports, which in itself can be worth a good few quid. Quality of seat and space varies massively too. Bear in mind that a lot of airlines are doing these cubicle type seats in business now. Means that if you want to sit together properly you have to choose the middle seats. Others like Virgin have you flying almost sideways which can be a bit weird first time. Oh yeah, much better class of booze in business (providing it isn't a dry airlineBijou Bob wrote:I've had permission to book Japan for next spring

Business class, deffo. Although I do appreciate that you're in the GG category when it comes to (lack of) legroom issues.Bijou Bob wrote:I've had permission to book Japan for next spring

I'm 6' 3" and could never see myself spending more than double on a plane ticket for some extra legroom, I'd rather get deep vein thrombosis. I'm hoping that if I get a job in an international internal audit function that I'll get to travel business class at somebody else's expenseBruce Rioja wrote:Business class, deffo. So am I, and as soon as you have travelled long haul in business class at someone else's expense and then gone back to veal crate class because you're footing the bill, you'll subsequently find that extra money every time.Beefheart wrote:I'm 6' 3" and could never see myself spending more than double on a plane ticket for some extra legroom, I'd rather get deep vein thrombosis. Exactly. I probably wouldn't even notice due to watching a movie on the bigger screen with Dolby headphonesbobo the clown wrote:.... and you die sooner in the event of crashing into a mountain. Far less time to worry.

Christ, I cant imagine paying extra - I'd travel in the overhead lockers if it saved me a tenner!Bruce Rioja wrote: and as soon as you have travelled long haul in business class at someone else's expense and then gone back to veal crate class because you're footing the bill, you'll subsequently find that extra money every time.

Yes, Harry, but maybe you've never traveled business class so can't make the comparison. IMHO it depends how long you are flying. Japan? Business class every time as you want to enjoy life after you arrive. Five hours or less you can probably manage economy.Harry Genshaw wrote:Christ, I cant imagine paying extra - I'd travel in the overhead lockers if it saved me a tenner!Bruce Rioja wrote: and as soon as you have travelled long haul in business class at someone else's expense and then gone back to veal crate class because you're footing the bill, you'll subsequently find that extra money every time.

Oh aye. I can imagine once you've tried 1st, business or club class you'd have to be dragged kicking & screaming into cattle class. Thing is for me the extra £800 (x2) that Bob will pay to go in comfort to Nippon would, for me, be better spent on beltin accommodation or trips once I was there.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Yes, Harry, but maybe you've never traveled business class so can't make the comparison. Re: Summer Holidays
Running a project once upon a time ... we were using KPMG consultants. We had one meeting in Milan. As we boarded & getting through the plane door they turned left and I turned right. I'm not a big sulker but that pissed me off big time.Harry Genshaw wrote:Christ, I cant imagine paying extra - I'd travel in the overhead lockers if it saved me a tenner!Bruce Rioja wrote: and as soon as you have travelled long haul in business class at someone else's expense and then gone back to veal crate class because you're footing the bill, you'll subsequently find that extra money every time.

Re: Summer Holidays
For me, I'd rather spread the cost of my holiday and fly business and get decent digs rather than spectacular. For example, Maldives last year we stayed in a fairly posh resort and went economy (thinking it is only 4 hours, so I'll manage). By the time I arrived at the seaplane I was so dishevelled I didn't really appreciate the experience flying over the atolls. The first day at the resort was spent recovering. The last day dreading the return.Harry Genshaw wrote:

This year, I've found a different resort at less than half the price, but is rated just as highly. We're flying business and it is still costing less overall than last year, even taking into account we're going for a couple of less days. I am taller than most, have knackered knees and have developed more expensive tastes as I've aged. I supposed if I wasn't as tall I wouldn't be as bothered, but having blagged quite a few upgrades in my younger days I've just gotten too used to it.

Do you ever get the feeling you made the wrong move in life?
As a little side bet, I'll bet that it'll be HMRC brought to you by KPMG within the decade. Set of bastards. Possibly.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I do, in that I took the quite complex route of Industrial Relations while mates went into banking.Lord Kangana wrote:Do you ever get the feeling you made the wrong move in life?bobo the clown wrote:Running a project once upon a time ... we were using KPMG consultants. I've think done OK ... till I see what they've done.
I've had a lot more laughs though, I suspect.
