Sports science/biomechanics made up a fair part of my degree so clearly that was time wasted according to LLS.

I tend to go with Lever Ends view that some people are more prone to injury then others (Theo Walcott...)
Warming up (and a cool down, which most people forget) can help in the prevention (there is plenty of evidence around to suggest it does) so it's important to include both in your training.
Obviously people get injured anyway, but to suggest that happened less in the olden days is ridiculous, it probably happened more but people just stopped running as there wasn't the easy access to physios etc there is today. Exercise was seen very differently, say 100 years ago. Yes, you had your footballers, rugby players and athletes etc but you didn't have the sheer amount of amateur fun runners, club athletes, joggers around as you do these days who are often starting from a poorer level of base fitness. Less people took part in running for fitness and fun as work/labour itself was far more physical then. If you got injured running you couldn't then work so easily. So yes, it may appear more people are injured these days running but that's because far more people do so to start with and we have more easy access to help when injured today which means when Harry gets injured (as he often does

Also left footed, my right is useless! Not got enough stamina to be fair, but I can beat most players in our league for speed. i played left wing, too, i think by virtue of being left footed more than any giggs-esque ability.

Love playing though, so much more fun running around playing football then going for a run!

Ha that would explain it!
Ive got to have an operation replacing my left leg with that of a greyhound.
Should be all right for a week on Sat. Also, compression bandages are amazing! Makes such a difference. I'm walking with a slight limp, only problem is walking downstairs. I'm basically a cow.

For a little more support whilst running try compression socks.

All I said was, and do try not to get all pissed off, was that most of you seem to get injured a lot - which you do. GtE got all excited and said it was because he put the effort in, and all I'm saying in return is that your sport-science really doesn't seem to help.

I was told by an orthopaedic surgeon at 14 that I was skeletally unsuited to running and should find something else to do. I ignored this advice because I loved running and was more talented at it than any other sport. I ignored the feck* and 25 years on am still competing, albeit with various aches and pains. This is because I have been fortunate enough to meet various sports injury specialists who have helped me through. I haven't achieved anything special but was a decent club runner and have had a lot of great experiences. Had I been born 30 years or more earlier I would have had to quit. Debating entering the Triple Jump at the Sussex County Champs. I have done virtually no training recently but could get some in beforehand... I only have 2 years left as a senior woman before I become a vet.

On becoming a Vet. Takes years of study what with so many animal physiologies to cope with. Perhaps you can explain to LLS the difference between a greyhound (Canis lupus familiaris) and a human being (Homo Sapiens)
