I was at Hull that day when Ream ran away from the Hull strikers as he was a bit scared.

Dougie Freedman says he would be interested in signing Alan Hutton on a permanent basis, but admits the player's wage demands could be too much for Bolton.

Hutton joined Wanderers on loan at the end of February and has made eight appearances for the club so far. During that time, the Trotters have won four, drawn three and lost just once - to Brighton & Hove Albion - as they have climbed away from relegation danger to a comfortable mid-table position in the Championship.

The 29-year-old has impressed during his short time at the Reebok Stadium and Freedman says the player must make a decision on his future in the summer, with a choice between loyalty and a Premier League wage likely to be the biggest stumbling block.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Freedman said: "I feel he has done terrifically well. He looks settled and he is getting better as the games go.

"But Premier League wages are getting so huge that you are going to have to do deals, deals are going to have to be sponsored by Premier League players.

"You are going to have to persuade a Premier League player to come and run around on a Saturday afternoon. It seems strange they would say 'no' to an offer like that but a few do that.

"To find a player who you can do a deal with, who will come and run around as well as being 'not bad' is very hard.

"I would like next season for us not to use the loan market to get results. I would like to make sure we get players in at the beginning of the season and we recruit the right types and if we are going to do an Alan Hutton, it will be for the whole season so we will get a settled team.

"I am hoping Alan's expectations of himself will be to go and play in the Premier League.

"If that's not the case at Villa, or at another Premier League club if he gets sold, and he wants to come back and play here, of course we would take him back."

With the recent fall out between Dougie and Baptiste, I wouldn't be surprised if he was pushed out to try and bring Hutton in.

What he would like to do and what he actually can do are different. Last summer he wanted and expected to sign more players than he actually did.

I think he knows this summer will be the same. He won't be able to sign who he wants and needs to one extent or another and will have to hope that during the season the right players come up on loan.

When you look at what we actually have on the books confirmed for next season it is worrying in some regards.

Not a chance for that money. He's on a big contract (2017 IIRC) and a quality player. As much as he's one of the few we still have I genuinely love watching play football, I'd not be averse to selling him if we got a big bid. Quality isn't in any doubt, but I'm not convinced we're ever going to see a season where we can put him out week-in, week-out.

North of £4m and you'd have to start asking if we couldn't improve the squad more with the money than with a really good, but injury-prone player.

Also, IIRC, one of the Football Manager games has him as a Leicester fan. Must be true!
