You find it strange that nobody wants players who have failed consistently for the past 2 or more seasons?

We signed players on salaries that did not reflect their abilities under previous management and that is why we can't sell them.

The sellable assets we might have had in Mark Davies, Holden and Lee have all had injuries and/or terrible form. In Davies'/Holden's case multiple injuries and in Lee's case a complete drop in form for the past two years.

I'm talking about several years, not just this season. Anyway, other clubs manage to sell failing players all the time.

Tango - I'm not sure we really got any money for Nogoals?

That's hindsight though. He finished last season as one of our best performers though, Dougie would have been slated for getting rid.
I'd try to get something for CYL this summer though so the situation isn't repeated.
I don't think Dougie is too concerned with being slated to be fair. I'm also not sure it is hindsight. He seems to shut players out, which as manager he has the right to do, whether we agree or not. But as a club, we seem to just let these players rot in Coventry. I accept there may not be a queue for all of them, but some of them we should be able to get nominal fees for at least. Take Sordell. He'll have a year left in the summer? Is Dougie going to use him next season? I doubt it. He clearly didn't want to use him this season, so why not sell him last summer, even for a few hundred k? His value is even lower after what looks like another shite season. Chances are, his contract will wind down, like every player seems to now and a large investment will be completely wasted. A few hundred k might not be a great return, but it is better than nowt in these straightened times.
It'd be nice but if people don't want them we're a bit stuffed.

Andrews seems to be a case in point, we literally couldn't give him away. He's at Brighton now, and we're paying half his wages. We couldn't have given him to them for free because then they'd have been picking up the full tab. As it is, they get a player on half wages, and we save half wages on a player we wouldn't use. It's shit, but I'm not sure the market was there to get rid of them.

No wonder we're skint! The pattern continues back for many years, with only an occasional season with money being recouped.

Not sure its actually that strange AT. Think its just the nature of player dealings these days. Its a buyers market. Fees are being replaced by contract expiry/ big wages. Selling a player for a good fee (partic non foreign & not involving the the big clubs)seems to be more infrequent and there only seems to be a small group of clubs who are able to produce the next bright young english thing - e.g. southampton. Living where I do, I hear a lot about stoke and they are in a similar boat - they spent big to establish themselves but don't think they've had much back in selling on any of those players.

Despite what BWFCi says, we were competing for players in a PL context (who only just went down) or trying to get back into the PL one. I've seen a table which showed we had the biggest wage bill in the champship last year, but blackburn and wolves weren't far behind. Not surprising given we'd been in the PL for the time we had, but perhaps the relegation clausses weren't as good as reported.

Nor me, to be honest.. I just assumed him being a French goal machine we'd get at least some cheese and maybe a bag of footballs for him. "Undisclosed" can hide a multitude of sins.

Aye, in this case ours. That we'd managed to pay roughly £4.5m over the odds for that useless bag of wank.

I just think if Barnsley can get 400k for Cravies from some idiot, then we should be able to get something for our shower of shite? Or, are we the only idiots in town?

Getting rid even 6 months early was a result.

He's managed to get on the grass for Swansea precisely 3 times since moving. I'm not sure if there was a guaranteed contract come July but I'd bet they'd rather not now they've seen him in inaction.

He's always wanted a move back to France. He really should get himself one.

Exactly and we bought players not even good enough for the league below. Under the manager that put his faith in them and signed them AND another manager.

There is absolutely no getting away from the buys from Coyle were a total and utter disaster. And a very expensive one at that.

They were a disaster, as was Coyle, but to say everyone he bought was league 1 or 2 standard is ridiculous. Didn't you used to rate Eagles? Holden? Just to name 2...

Well, not good enough to get in our side regularly and perform well enough to expectations, that is for sure. I rated Eagles last season in the run in when he did perform consistently. But that period isn't enough in his overall time here to justify what I assume to be a salary well above the average in this division.

After somehow convincing OC that he was a footballer.Sodall will probably disappear into obscurity in the summer.Having bagged 3-4 mill from Bolton over the last few years!!!!! Nice (work) if you can get it.And from Dougies comments about chungy'it doesn't sound like he'll be here next season.

Eagles has under performed. Most people would suggest he has been an above average performer in this division throughout his career. Is it possible that he is under performing because managers aren't/haven't gotten the best or even average out of him? He might be a bit of a squad filler/bencher above this level, but something is wrong if he can't perform in a mid table Championship side, given he's made a career out of that before he got to us.

Dougie's latest "genius" statement in todays BEN is that "the club is now scouting for players for next Jan's transfer window in Australia, Switzerland and Norway as the clubs stats show thats where the best value for money players are"????
He also goes on to say that the club "finished scouting for players for this summers transfer window at the end of Feb"?????

Now I may sound stupid here, but surely how can you decide in Feb, which players you want to go for in the summer? Does that mean he's not going to look at anybody who may become available after Feb if he's not already scouted them???

He really confuddles me does Dougie :conf: :conf: :conf:

The transfers whilst signficant for us, were chicken feed in the PL context. Loan wise for every sturridge theres an afobe.

A bit like the current incumbent the ones that disappoint are guys who clearly have ability but we failed to get the best out of e.g. rodrigo. Sordell must be rueing the day he was lured north.

I have since found out(from that link) Adam Blakeman plays for Hyde, the team which couldn't draw with an u10s side.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Don't agree at all. No manager has a 100% success rate but you look at the relative fees paid and the value back. The money spent on NGog and Sordell might be our last significant deals for a while. 7+M worth. And they were a disaster. Unmitigated. Striking gold with Holden was great but that does not mitigate the way he spent money. Out of isolation he built a team of weak willed losers. And thats the worst legacy from his transfer dealings.
