Seven psychopaths is great, as is The Guard but In Bruges is an absolute classic.
That new Calvary is dire.

Saw The Raid 2 tonight. Hammers indeed! I wonder whether the use of 'Sarabande' in the soundtrack was in some way a reference to Barry Lyndon? I'm guessing not.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Keep meaning to watch 7P, always disliked Farrell until I saw In Bruges, totally changed my view of him. I think my dislike was largely based on his playing Alexander The Great as Paul Calf.William the White wrote:Really? nowhere near as good as In Bruges but not remotely dire. How on earth have I not seen this film before?? Brilliantly funny, with great performances by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. Can't say that I've seen much of Farrell's work previously and never realised how good he is at doing comedy. Going to have to watch it again now.
Bruges looks like a beautiful city too. Definitely one to visit.
That conversation between Gleeson and Fiennes containing numerous used of the naughty C-word is hilarious.

All of that, BP. Definitely visit Bruges but think on - it's tiny, so tie it in with a trip to somewhere else is my recco. Both Brussels and Antwerp are close by.Burnden Paddock wrote:In Bruges.

Also, as mentioned, watch The Guard. I promise you won't regret it.

Bruges is done in two days, but beautifully done. One serious lack of competitive pricing there. Almost all the (100's os) restaurantshave near identical pricing.
Ghent is good, But even smaller. Don't get the Antwerp fuss tbh. Brussels is a concrete mess apart from the absolute centre ... which is lovely. Plus a few park like residential areas on the edge.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If driving a detour in flanders - to Ypres (Ieper in Flemish)and the Last post at the Menin Gate - 8.00pm every night. And the graveyards of the first world War, particularly Tyne Cot, and the brilliant In Flanders Field museum right in Ypres centre are all intensely moving things to visit/witness.

Watched Seven Psychopaths today and though very good, it's no 'In Bruges'. Sam Rockwell is absolutely brilliant in it tbf.

Caught the first part of BBC's version of Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn. Very dark and atmospheric rendition of the tale of murder and mayhem off the coast of Cornwall.

↑↑↑ When you say "dark" Tango I take it you meant it as in lacking in light. It was like they filmed it using a couple of torches.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Aye, a dark drama in every way hey Bobo. 1820 was candlelight and oil lamps only, but it sure was dim in that old ruin of a place. I read up on the making of it and the Inn scenes were filmed in a barn in Yorkshire because the real Jamaica Inn has motorways etc around it. Must say they did a good job of authenticity because all else apart from that was filmed on Bodmin and the Cornish coast.bobo the clown wrote:↑↑↑ When you say "dark" Tango I take it you meant it as in lacking in light. Keep meaning to read that. Read Rebecca a few years after my then girlfriend bought it for me. Dismissed it as a girl's book for ages then got round to it and realised how excellent it was. Thought of contacting her to thank her but then remembered she hated my guts.TANGODANCER wrote:Caught the first part of BBC's version of Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn. Watched 'The Usual Suspects', and now know where a certain poster gets their various usernames. Didn't really live up to my expectations though unfortunately.

Took my lad to watch "Captain America: "The Winter Soldier" at Middlebrook. Got to say its far better than the first film, which I also enjoyed. A good mindless bit of fun.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Just watched 'Me & Orson Welles', really good!
Never really been in to Shakespeare (I watched the Merchant of Venice because Al Pacino was it, and loved that), but I'd definitely give Julius Caesar a watch now.

The series, yes. I haven't seen the film but reading the blurb they have said it bears no relation. Although the Coen Brothers are exec. producers.
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Forgot to mention, when last at the cinema I noticed a trailer for what has to be one of the most pointless remakes. It looks almost identical to the original, with the only discernable difference being the location. I'm not sure, but I think they've even used the same giant guy for that fight scene.
