Matt Mills was equally to blame as neither made much effort to close Dyer down. Mills did have a bit of an excuse as he had been marking the man out wide. Knight on the other hand just stood there on the spot and didn't make any effort to challenge Dyer. Poor by both.LeverEnd wrote:

Just seen the goal on SSN. Very good finish. Also noticed Spearing going nuts and shouting at someone. Presumably Knight for standing there and watching him score it while making no attempt to do anything about it.
And BWFCI, sure you do at times, but I don't think you do need to play like that when you're at home and there is nothing riding on the result. Have a go, give fans something to cheer.
You certainly don't need to do it against lower teams at home, which we have done.

I think Mills had to watch the wide man you mentioned, Knight looked mesmerised. He could have gone to the ball as Spearing had dropped in. I saw this from over the bowler's arm, as it were. Firstly the lad that collected the big hoof downfield looked to be about five yards offside when he received the ball, but I've no idea as to where he was as it was played to him. Dyer, I think, as he skipped in was expecting Knight to do something, which he didn't, and thusly opened up the entire far side for Dyer to aim at. A cracking finish and no mistake, but Knight allowed him all the time in the world to pick his spot. And this is the gangling, useless c*nt supposedly playing for a new contract. My socks - they're offLeverEnd wrote: I think Mills had to watch the wide man you mentioned, Knight looked mesmerised. He could have gone to the ball as Spearing had dropped in. Awful.

Hang on.. Spearing going mad? He was practically camped on the edge of the box for the whole match.. When dyer came inside, I immediately thought "That's shit, but Spearing and Trotter better deal with this now...."
"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"
Re: Brush this lot aside! - Leicester (H) 22/4/14
I think the first long ball up was off a goal kick - no offside.
Ideally you'd have had Knight sprinting up to close the man down but that's unlikely for a few reasons.

According to our kid it started from us thinking Wood was offside from a goal kick? Oh dear.

Missed the game so can't comment on his overall play, he looked to be having a right old tantrum though.boltonboris wrote:Hang on.. Spearing going mad? Cheers, Athers - I hadn't noticed that. I'd have hoped the arm-waving players might have though.Athers wrote:I think the first long ball up was off a goal kick - no offside.

According to Freedman Baptiste was in the team last night but got injured last minute so they had to change the shape. Wonder where he was playing?

Except this wasn't a game which meant anything to us, so why show them respect? It's not like we're down at the relegation zone or fighting to get into the play offs, this is a meaningless game that we were expected to lose. Why not attack them, play with a bit of flair and show what we can do? Even in a game that means nothing, we just played horrible negative football to avoid getting battered. Freedman has a pathetic mentality that is suited to a team who are expected to do nothing.BWFC_Insane wrote:There are times in a season you NEED to play like that. There's absolutely no cohesion, no plan, we just look completely uninterested in going winning games like that
It's very, very easy ... let them have the ball until the final third, then you've all fallen back and there's simply no room for them to pass or attack. It's immensely uncreative and means the only possible way of scoring is from a fast breakaway.
You can often draw, but you don't often win. It's no way to play.
There isn't a one size fits all approach.

have we determined beyond reasonable doubt whether finishing a place or two higher means a bigger share of the pot? I know the question was asked - but I don't recall it being answered?

I have a recollection that 1st and 2nd get prize money and everyone else gets nothing.thebish wrote:have we determined beyond reasonable doubt whether finishing a place or two higher means a bigger share of the pot? I know the question was asked - but I don't recall it being answered?

It's worth most overall to go up as play-off final winners, isn't it?thebish wrote:really! as if getting promoted isn't already a big enough prize!!!mrplow wrote:I have a recollection that 1st and 2nd get prize money and everyone else gets nothing.thebish wrote:have we determined beyond reasonable doubt whether finishing a place or two higher means a bigger share of the pot? Extra game and tv revenue?

Yup, here! But I thought more noticeable for White actually. He made a couple of decent runs (to be gentle I'll suggest he's an attacking full back as opposed to one who needs introducing to defending), and was ignored by all. Lester demanded it a bit more and had a shot from memory.Athers wrote: I'm all for seeing some kids get minutes but did anyone else think the senior players didn't quite make as many passes to the two wingers as much as they might? Maybe the first teamers didn't buy into it aswell as Freedman would've liked.officer_dibble wrote:Yup, here! But I thought more noticeable for White actually. The seasons been over for a while now and yet this is the first proper introduction of our youngsters into the fold. Seems a pretty tough game for them to get stuck into (thrown in at the deepend).
I don't know how Dougie is expecting us to change our mentality into a winning team when our first though when playing a team at the top of the table is to let them have the ball and counter attack. Championship winning sides attack and get used to attacking so that even when they're having a poor game (like the 1-0 against us) they still come away with a win.
We may not have the personnel to win matches but we should be looking to instill that mentality regardless. Freedman complained about the state of our season coming down to draws or narrow defeats. Well a better impetous on attack might've salvaged our season.
