Re: The Macron Stadium
The thing that has always surprised me about stadium naming issue, is that more clubs don't retain some part of the name to provide a continuity through the various sponsorship deals, say the Lofthouse Reebok Stadium, followed by the Lofthouse Macron Stadium etc. The pure sponsor name, as has been commented on does blow all ideas of links to the club and tradition out the window.
Re: The Macron Stadium
Well it would be nice to call it The Lofthouse Stadium but we're skint and to be fair it's not like there's years of history and tradition and glory associated with the place. Sign o the times and all that. Would be a bit shit if it's renamed every few years. It's not Ashley renaming St james Park for instance. Wouldn't got so far as well done, as it makes me cringe a bit, but I'm not that fussed really, which is generally how I've always felt about the stadium. More interested in what's playing in it (if 'interested' is the right word at the moment!).
And I agree with AW, it does sound a bit Battlestar Galactica.

Re: The Macron Stadium
True. It was OK when it was Reebok, because of the history. I'd rather they left Nat's name out of it altogether than tack a different sponsor onto it every few years. Let's stick with the stand in that case.StaffsTrotter wrote:The thing that has always surprised me about stadium naming issue, is that more clubs don't retain some part of the name to provide a continuity through the various sponsorship deals, say the Lofthouse Reebok Stadium, followed by the Lofthouse Macron Stadium etc. The pure sponsor name, as has been commented on does blow all ideas of links to the club and tradition out the window.

Put it this way.. No Craig Davies = Nat Lofthouse stadium for 2 years.LeverEnd wrote:True. It was OK when it was Reebok, because of the history. Yes, what name would you be 'proud' of'?boltonboris wrote:What question? The one where you want me to name a fvckin' stadium?!
Quite surprised somebody who seems as intelligent (albeit, a bit eggy) seems to think that Macron are a "blue chip organisations that are queuing up, top dollar in hand to have their elite brand associated" with us... They're neither
And my point, that you've clearly failed to grasp (presumably due to you getting a bit edgy (or is it "eggy"?)) is that Macron are as good a sponsor as we could hope for due to a distinct LACK of blue chip organisations that are queuing up, top dollar in hand to have their elite brand associated with us. I thought I'd also made that clear in my earlier remark that they (blue chip org's) don't even bother to sponsor perimeter fencing anymore, let alone the stadium.

You've completely overlooked my point that, if we didn't buy shite players that we never see, the money we save from them, could be used...Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes, what name would you be 'proud' of'?boltonboris wrote:What question? The one where you want me to name a fvckin' stadium?!

Re: The Macron Stadium
Surely, though, that's an argument that we should be buying better players - spend 300K a season buying some young, undiscovered nonshitcunt star of the future.boltonboris wrote:You've completely overlooked my point that, if we didn't buy shite players that we never see, the money we save from them, could be used...Bruce Rioja wrote:Yes, what name would you be 'proud' of'?boltonboris wrote:What question? Inevitable, I suppose, but still another blow to morale
I think, as formerlyofthisparish Mof Gimmers suggested, I might start calling it Middlebrook (cf Eastlands)

The Macron Middlebrook Monolisseum* (for when we're in the Champions League and we put those extra few rows in at the front).
*Monolisseum is my own word so don't try getting it written on a Thornton's Egg 'cos I've copywrited it.

Re: The Macron Stadium
OK, I take your point - somewhat idealistic though, don't you think? Surely the onus is on us to take the money and spend it more wisely, no? And it remains an unfortunate point that every club's reserve set-up has to jettison more players than make it through to the first team.boltonboris wrote: You've completely overlooked my point that, if we didn't buy shite players that we never see, the money we save from them, could be used...

Re: The Macron Stadium
I've a great idea. If we didn't pay any players we'd not need to have a stadium at all and could all just use jumpers for goalposts on the Asda Car Park and play at 'the real Burnden'.
And we'd have no debts.

I think Asda has a better pie selection than the Macron Stadium too.BWFC_Insane wrote:I've a great idea. If we didn't pay any players we'd not need to have a stadium at all and could all just use jumpers for goalposts on the Asda Car Park and play at 'the real Burnden'.

And when Elton John comes back to do another gig he can do it from the roof of the Carphone Warehouse.

TBH me either. Having a look they do seem to sponsor a number of European sides and some domestic too (Leeds and Millwall to name two).
No better or worse quality wise than Adidas or Reebok as all shirts (running and football) seem to use some kind of 'keepcool' technology.
They will have a different design ethos though. More basic. Regardez-vous: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 7613,d.ZWU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No idea but with national stereotyping it will be very stylistic but might not be very durable. They are kit suppliers to those below - not sure if we are the first stadium name ?William the White wrote:When it comes to football one colour is forbidden!!!
