A bit of nostalgia.
BBC iPlayer - 27/04/14 - 11:15am
30th July 1966 - The Reunion. Originally transmitted in 2006, Sue MacGregor gathers five men - three of them players - who made that day so extraordinary.
Hat-trick goal scorer Sir Geoff Hurst, and his fellow West Ham player Martin Peters; George Cohen, known as Mr. Dependable, who played for Fulham; the man in charge of BBC television's coverage of the match, Alan Weeks; and one of the all important admin men - the team liaison manager for the London matches throughout the tournament, Alan Leather.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. If you're of a certain age, worth a listen maybe.

I'm one of these that can quite rightly claim that England have won the World Cup within my lifetime. I was three days old.
May the bridges I burn light your way

... & when the match went to extra time you, literally, shat yourself.Bruce Rioja wrote:I'm one of these that can quite rightly claim that England have won the World Cup within my lifetime. I was three days old.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I was eleven years old. I'd been taught at school we'd stuffed the Hun in two world wars, and the sun never set on our Empire commonwealth. I thought it only natural we should win the feckin world cup. I was expecting we'd win it three times and get to name it the Harold Wilson Cup or sommat. Naivety is a quality of youth I was taught in 1970.
That's not a leopard!
